If you have the 130amp alternator odds are you'll never need to go bigger unless you plan on getting a winch and running a few big ass subs in the back at the same time. I've been running a 3k stereo system (class A/B) off of an 80amp alternator in the civic that's 17 years old and it barley pegs out. I bought a new one form @BamaToy1997 for my Civic that's pushing the 130amp range now. Last time I checked he makes high output alternators for Tacoma's.

Mine is a 130 Amp Denso. Upgraded from the 90 it came with. Even that one ran my dual SPAL fans. However, I don't have all of the accessories that some of you guys do.

    ^^^

My only problem with the electic fans, was that my 15 lbs battery was to dang small. Couldn't run the A/C, or it'd pop a fuse on one of the fans. Ended up popping the battery. 21 lb battery now.

Lol I just saw that. He's a good guy and has good products and if starts selling again and I need an alternator upgrade I'll buy from him again. He took care of me with my Civic.

    nice! good lookin out brotha!

duh!! I completely forgot I replaced my alternator not too long ago.. and we went through this exact thing. It IS a 130 amp. so should be good yeah? A winch will be down the road for sure..

LED doesnt draw too much, and I very occasionally have everything on at the same time, especially not over long periods of time... that would include E fans as well. the situations that they would be on all the time are far and few.

I dealt with him for my Hubs.. no issues. so I would probably go though him again.

but.. lookin like I would be perfectly fine.

Yeah the 130amp alternator is fine for you. Get a winch and dual batteries you might want to jump up a bit (200amp) but you'll just have to test it under full load and see. I've been very impressed with the alternator (130amp) in our trucks.

thats true.. just use it till it does need to be replaced. no biggie.. at least i know there are options out there.

and yeah.. forgot dual batteries.. but I also plan on running solar to charge both, but have accessories off the secondary. not sure how that plays a factor when talking alternators.

Solar won't effect anything. It's such a small amount of power it throws into the battery anyways. It's just extra power getting put into the cells.

For all of the peeps following this thread, whom aren't yet aware, I am working with Ron Davis Radiators to make an upgraded drop in radiator for our trucks. With the ability to have SPAL electric fans.

This is what Moose was referring to, a few posts ago.

They estimated about 6 weeks out.

My recommendation on alternators has always been to add up all of the power robbing items that you would have on at any 1 time (i.e. lights, extra devices to include power inverter, fans, etc) then add about 40A (typical draw of your truck at night with highbeams on, etc) then multiply that number by 1.5. If that number is more than 50% of your alternator's output at idle, then you should consider upgrading. The reason I say that is while your alternator is CAPABLE of putting out 130A from the factory, that rating is at full load, and at 1600-2000 engine RPM. At engine idle the factory alternator will typically only be capable of 50% of its max output. (in this case it would be 70A at idle) While the alternator CAN put out 130A at engine speed, you are also loading it to max output, or extremely high output, which will shorten the life due to higher heat, heavier load output, etc. This is why so many factory alternators go out when one starts adding accessories. Dual batteries will help extend the life of a stock alternator, but only if your output demands are not consistently at a high demand. I will say that a 130A alternator is CAPABLE of running a truck with lights and a winch, but the cycle time for the winch is limited. For example I have a 130A high output alternator for my 97 Taco. I use a winch, but I use it only occasionally when off-roading requires it, or I am getting someone unstuck. (I am a member of a local recovery group that helps people who get stuck off road, or on the beach) I have to use a shorter cycle time of no more than 20 seconds on, 30 seconds off to prevent my alternator from overheating, or my battery from cycling too low. The most important thing to remember is balance is the key!

And yes, there was some drama on the electrical thread. I could have easily just deleted the thread and created a new one if I had wanted to, but I believe in keeping my company in the light. I have problems just like everyone else does. I also make sure that I correct those problems.

I appreciate the insight Bill.

I think I will run my alt until I start seeing symptoms, as I don't have a lot of accessories.. Yet.. And the battery and alternator were just replaced less than a year ago.

Valley Spring Service did a superb job on my new custom leaf packs! Thanks again @XPOTRPR for the recommendation! I don't see the need to spend outrageous amounts of money for rear springs when we have a local shop that can do it for half the price or less!
