Inspired by NegroTundra's mod, I decided to do a similar mod for my 1st gen. My 99 Tacoma has the 60/40 bench seat. I made a platform in the xtra cab area so my dogs would be more comfortable...

All the materials were scrap I had around the house, which makes this mod even better:)

Here is the platform. The top is plywood. My dogs aren't huge, so I didn't need a thick piece of wood...

Here's a couple of shots in the truck...

I put a small strip of carpet under the center foot for a better fit.

I think it fits. Now for carpet...

The hardest part of this was using an old carppy staple gun which jammed when I was almost done adding the carpet. Ended up buying a new one to finish the job...

The carpeting raised the platform above the existing seat platform, so I added a strip of carpeting to that area. Now it is pretty even/level...

There is still a bit of storage under the platform. It fits nice and snug, and I think my best friends are going to like it!

That actually looks really good. Well done. There's no way the both of em' would fit back there without the platform. And much safer than having them in the bed.

All i've done for now with my DC is just put a sheet over the seats, the damn mutt sheds like crazy.... I'm gonna look for one of those seat hammocks for dogs so he doesn't try to climb into the front seat while i'm driving.

Question though...does that wood get in the way of the seats sliding/reclining?

    Nice looking dogs btw.

    Thanks!
The seats still recline but only go back to where the wood starts. I probably should have made the passenger side a little narrower for more legroom in front, but it's not bad.

sorry to bump an old thread but do you have measurements of your platform? yours looks like it fits alot better than my first cut/ try lol, figured it could save me some trial and error time and plywood

I just did a quick measurement - it's approximately 50 1/2 in by 14 in. You may want yours narrower, though, so your seat goes back further. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply ma'am I'll try that out and trim if needed narrower than 14"
