You might consider riveting fork mounts to the front rail of your bed; cheap and effective. If you're going for looks over function, be advised that I had a Yakima rack on my car, and the Q-Tower pads fogged the paint underneath.

EDIT: Assumed you were mounting bike(s).

EDIT 2: If you get the Yakima, I have some Yakima keyed locks that I'll sell you for cheap.

Yea im like u mwild, i have always liked the way they looked but they are a little too pricey for me i think for no more function than i would actually get out of it, i think if i was goin to spend the money it would be on something that i would get more use out of

Im thinkin about building one or buying a used one. I mainly just want it for looks and to mount some lights to and maybe a spare tire and a highlift jack. I saw in a magazine that they put silicone between the pain and the rack mounts. They used silicone made for plumping. It said they got it in the toilet section of home depot.

Here is one-from 4 years back. I had the yakima load warrior on the there with the q stretch kit. hi lift jack, axe shovel carrier and it was nice.

The real draw back is the roof took a bit of beating. Some small scratches and I was really careful.

I now have a new tacoma and the camper shell has the yakima rack and feel that it's easier to deal with gear on top of the camper instead of the cab . Just my .02 cents.

Nice truck- it brings back some great memories.

Im sorry to bring this back from the dead. I want to carry a canoe on my taco so I was thinking of making a rear support from the inside of the bed or the bumper and I have a set of thule racks from a jetta I used to own to use as the support over the cab. My question is what thule feet if any fit the cab? It sort of has a rain gutter if you remove the rubber weather stripping but it doesnt seem the same as most older cars. I know the raingutter mounts are the cheapest and easiest to find thats why I am hoping they will work
