i say yes go ahead and do it i have 167000 on mine and just bought 5100s, KC lights, bout to get wheelsand tires. replacing shocks are probly a good thing cause who knows when hey were changed last and tires you will always need. but i would get the 5100s and a aal and ride with that for awhile and see if you need to buy springs and a leaf pack may ride great and save you alot of money.like eveyone said its a toyota they will last forever if well kept. and you can always rebuild the engine or find another motor. just dont beat it up on the trails and it will last a long time. i know a guy that had 35s on a 96 and just rolled over to 300,000 still going but is going to need a rebuild soon.

In my opinion, it really just depends on your personal desire. If you want to keep the truck forever, go for it. You can rebuild your engine at 350-400,000 miles and it'll run forever. The thing is, if you plan on selling it in the future, you're really wasting your money. Despite the resale value and durability of the 1st gens, people aren't really that turned on by trucks with 300,000+ miles on them.

From what I read almost everything your going to do should have or will have to be replaced in the very near future. I say go for it and improve the quality ride that it may have left in it.....

Thank you so much for all of the help everyone. Its very clear what the verdict is. All of the input was a lot of help. I already had a ton of confidence in my truck and now I have that much more. I have already started tearing things out on the rear end.

Also I looked at the poll results and pretty much everyone who said no are 2nd gen owners, which makes senses.

I would would say thats a good call for your situation but there is honestly a supprising number of people who do a lot of stuff to prerunners. I wouldn't blame you if you did decided to.

Spend money on it. I got the 04 model 4cyl with OME all around. I run 265\75\16's and I love my truck. Re gearing is not needed if you don't change to huge tires. If you change the oil every 5000 miles and run mobil 1 synthetic in it the motor will outlast you.

Tell you what. I got the 881 springs on front and 5 leaf Dakars and I would have done it sooner if I had of known it would ride that much better. I also have the ARB Bullbar and love it as well
