Looking to do a 3" suspension from Dobinson and was wondering what everyone's opinion on doing a diff drop?

I've never seen it improve anything on a 3rd gen, I throw them out with leveling kits now.

With a 3" lift you'll need ECGS bushing to compensate for the diff vibes you'll have.

I would do a 2 1/2 lift. And add the diff drop if the angle shows you should.

Can you even get to 3” in the front and still have any down travel? I remember measuring the stock down travel to be 3” on my truck. Having zero down travel seems unacceptable and I’ve long assumed that is why many of the 3rd gen lift kits shoot for 2”. The CV angles might also be a concern.

In any case, I think you will find it difficult to find anyone on here that has tried a 3” lift with and without a diff drop with everything else the same. I would ask the manufacturer or a reputable 4wd shop.

I personally have about a 2” lift and no diff drop, because my kit from headstrong off-road didn’t come with one and I trust them
more than the average joe on here. So far so good. Even if I do eventually break a CV, it will probably be hard to blame the lift. It could just as easily be the extra abuse I give it off the road.

3" is pushing it. It can be done but as others have said, you will have almost no downtravel and you will feel that offroad.

I went with the Diff drop on a ToyTec Boss 2.0 and I'm good. Some will discourage the diff drop because of the clearance you lose but I think it helps with the geometry of the lift.$.02
