Honestly, I think Toyota is keeping it under wraps for as long as possible and GM is too. This fall they both have VERY important vehicles coming out. For Toyota it's the Tacoma and for GM it's the new duramax diesel option for the twins. What we're seeing right now is essentially a manufacturer staring contest where they see who's going to crack first. I'm sure each of them have marketing collateral they're bursting at the seams waiting to use.

What kinda blows though is I don't think the Tacoma (from what we know thus far, which is limited) really has anything significant spec to hang it's hat on. Meaning, it's not likely to have the highest HP, best fuel economy, tow rating, etc...GM is going to come out and state their truck boasts the best rating in pretty much all those categories but they have to wait till Toyota releases final specs FIRST. We can argue that the Tacoma will be better built and more reliable (which it likely will) all we want. But when it comes to new truck buyers sizing them up on paper, I think GM is going to win by a LANDSLIDE. And that's trouble for Toyota. You think GM hit it hard with their AC DC Back in Black truck commercials last year? You ain't seen nothin yet!

I have to agree on your assessment. Most guys and gals on here are brand loyal and I am sure it can be said for the twin guys/gals as well. I would think however there is a large number of buyers not loyal to either camp that will look at the specs before buying and that may favor GM but we can't say for sure yet because Toyota is holding off on details. One thing I wonder about though is the fact they have to put a tonneau cover on a number of trucks to make it more fuel efficient. Whats going to be the big surprise a factory installed Tornado under the hood?:crapstorm:

Read through most of the 3rd Gen threads and haven't seen any mention of warranty. You think we'll get an extended (7/100k) powertrain warranty or the same old 5/60k??

I do agree with you. I'm not sure how competitive the pricing will be with the diesel option, so even if it does get good mpg's is it worth the premium they will stick on the upgrade engine option and the extra dollar cost per gallon of diesel? I see that truck being 40k, but idk. If Tacoma can achieve good mpgs 26-27 highway with the v6 and sell it for low 30k's at a dollar less a gallon, I could see the value being much better. Of the course the diesel will likely be a torque monster, so there is no beating that. If taco comes in at 270hp/290-2300tq and better gearing, that should still be a great setup given the size of the vehicle. I would guess 90+ percent of the market is not doing any serious towing, they just like big numbers. I am biased because I really like Toyota's, but I think GM is an inferior product and it's not all that close in my mind even with better numbers in certain areas.

i really hope its close to 2300 lb/ft of torque but they will have to really beef the frame up to keep it from tweeking

One thing to remember is that Toyota seems to be trying to please most of the market with the V6 engine. Part of the market needs high torque for towing and offroad shenanigans and then part of the market wants something smooth for highway daily commuting. Essentially, this engine is straddling the fence between two different use case scenarios. GM has gone the route to provide the BEST engine choice for each respective market. The V6 will be for the masses that just WANT a truck. The diesel will be the working man's engine choice for the guys that NEED a truck. I think it's a great idea and wish Toyota would have done something similar. Too bad. :(

I understand there Corporate reasoning for stick the Tonneau Cover on some trucks but what a pain in the ass it's going to be, if you buy one where the Tonneau Cover is included to meet some MPG number you are now stuck with a cover if you decide to put a cap on it...

The salesman at one of my local dealerships. I already have a $500 refundable deposit on a TRD Sport with the upgrade package.

I previously had a 2wd S-10 and then a 4wd S-10, and had nothing but problems. Bought a Tacoma new in 2006, and in nearly 10 years the only thing wrong with it is the timing cover is leaking a little oil. That's it. I think the Colorados are nice looking trucks, but I'd be stupid to go back to GM.
