That's common. Sometimes they have to add weight on the inner and outer barrel to get the balance right. Definitely wouldn't worry me. As long as it feels alright then you should be fine.

Issues like this are why I really don't like going just anywhere for my mount/balance. For my cars I have a race shop I trust and they get all my business because I know they know what they're doing and won't damage any of my wheels. Unfortunately they don't do big truck tires so I'm stuck with regular tire shops - although I have found one that has done decent work so far.

Yeah I understand what you mean. Tire mounting/balancing and alignments are the only things I let shops touch my truck for, and it still makes me nervous most of the time. The closest off-road shops to me are about a 30-40 mile drive away for me, so I was happy the discount guys figured it out. If they need rebalancing in the future, I may just have to suck it up and take it to an off-road shop.

I know lots of people have had balance issues but I guess I'm just lucky enough not to have run into that yet. Balancing can always be redone and redone and redone if needed so although a PITA it's only a minor concern. My main worry is that they'll damage my wheels or vehicle. I generally don't even let tire shops remove/install my wheels and instead I take them there "loose". Makes their job easier and less chance of them doing something dumb. Like you, tire/alignment are basically the only times I let someone else work on my vehicles.

I had mine rebalanced once, and there were weights on both sides of the wheel (~180° apart), which seems counterproductive. Just curious if they knew to remove everything and start fresh.

Either way, as long as they're balanced, it doesn't really matter.

Yeah they’re awesome! I can’t wait to take them off road. This size is pretty cool too. They seem a bit taller and narrower than most this size, which I prefer.

I almost went with the same size, but thought I'd have less rubbing with 295/70/17's. The 285/75 is like the ultimate tall skinny! They look great on your truck!

I want to say the varying placement along the inside width of the barrel is actually intentional by whoever balanced it

It WAS intentional. Modern wheel balancing machines will provide weight locations for inner AND/OR outer barrel. It's all luck of the draw based on your wheel and tire. Sometimes you'll have weights only on the inside, sometimes only on the outside, sometimes both - heck, I've even had tires balance perfectly without needing any weights at all.

Here's a vid of modern tire balancing: https://youtu.be/sH4JNdrLbmo

Having some balancing issues with these currently. One day at about 8k miles my steering wheel started shaking. Looked and found out that the wheel weights fell off on 3 of the wheels.

I took them back to discount tire where I bought them from to rebalance and left with the steering wheel still shaking. Turned around and went back and told them. They tried balancing again but the problem continues. The employee showed me that the machine is showing they balances fine, but you can see that the wheel is shaking while rotating on the balance machine. I asked about road force and he said that he'll do it, but I said let's do it next time because I already spent hours there and didn't want to spend all day there. I think I'm going to go to a different discount and let them give it a shot on road force.

I really hope a different shop will figure it out because I really love these tires. They grip like crazy off-road.

If the wheel is shaking it could be bent

I don't feel like I did anything that could bend the wheel itself. What I find weird is that I only had very minor shaking with 3 wheels not having wheel weights. After I got them "balanced" the steering wheel shake got worse.

Who knows, I'll try to get it sorted and report back what it ended up being.

These look great, I have to admit I've been strongly considering these or some Nittos, I'm gonna have to read some more of this thread. The price can't be beat

I have had a situation where I took my 4Runner to discount to have the tires rebalanced and they were not able to get them balanced properly. Took it to my neighborhood off-road shop and they got them perfect.
