That sounds brutal

 

I keep picking up this LC Engineering catalog & dreaming about all of the cool stuff they have. Everything from cams & headers to long travel & IFS eliminator kits, lockers, super chargers, ect, ect. Damn I need to win the lottery or something.

 

I wanted to do a compression test on the motor before I started on the timng chain, but my gauge is a piece of crap. It seems logical to do because if I need to pull the head for some reason I would rather do it at the same time. My gauge doesn't hold the reading, you actually have to have 2 people to do the test, one to hit the key & another to watch the gauge. Does anyone (Keith) have a good compression tester I could use? Or does anyone (Andy) want to come over & help me do the test with mine?

 

For that reason, I kinda hope I get in a roll over and my truck is totaled with minimal frame damage. Then I'd use the money to build that Access cab, short bed, V8 they had at SEMA a few years back.

key word on that Andrew, being "minimal" haha! and man that'd be a sad day if you rolled your truck. Just hope the insurance adjustor doesn't see you only have front wheel drive right now!

I ended up renting a compression tester last night & got some dissapointing news. Nothing I wasn't prepared for. The compression was nice & even across all of the cylinders, just low. I got 100, 100, 100, 90. I'm looking into what my next move will be. I really don't want to rebuild the short block yet but I'm sure it will need it soon. I am going to look into adjusting the valves & possiblly going ahead & replacing the timning chain & taking the head in for a valve job. The timing chain is def. on the loose side but from what I can tell with just the vavle cover off the guides appear to be intact, so that is good. I am sure if I do all of that the compression will at least be better. I think that even with low compression it will prob run fine, just be somewhat short on power. I will do some research & check back in.

 

is that a dry test, or with oil? that does seem low..
