Fuck it, I am done for tonight. I still cant get the hubs off, they seem to be in a bind with the splines on the Axles. Beyond the BJ spacer clearance problems, I NEED to get this shit apart to replace the brake rotors, they are junk. I have new axles that I would like to install also. I think mine are fine, but I will just keep them for spares. I have some pics that I will post in the AM.

Drew...Sean...who has those Chinese wheel spacers that used to be Randy's? I would like to borrow then for 2 weeks if that are not being used at the moment. I guess I am going to make some, but it would be nice If I didn't have to get them done before BVORR in 10 days.

Just a few minor bugs to work out, not calling it a fail just yet.

I am just going to take the whole damn thing apart. Pull the lower BJ & the tie rod end & pray that it comes apart. Replace the axle at least on that side, clean & repack the wheel bearings.

All I've got is these bolts out of the hubs, but it won't come off any more than what is shown in the pic. I pryed on it a bit but didn't want to break anything. It has got to be in a bind with the splines on the axle because I can't turn the axle seperate from the wheel and when I pull on the hub I can feel it in the axle. Randy, the snap ring you are talking about must be under the front cover of the hub? I am planning to take that apart next, but i need to do some reading first & see how it comes apart.

Thanks, I just need to borrow them for maybe 2 weeks. Drew, can I talk you into shipping them to me? Here is the UCA rubbing the tire. It's pretty bad and this pic is with the tire off the ground, suspension at full droop.

This pic shows the shock full extended with the suspension at full droop. The shock is about 1" too short.

OK thanks, I'll give it a shot, I just didn't want to go crazy prying on it untill I knew how they where susposed to come off. If I still can't get it then I will take the hub cover off & see what I can do. Just to be clear though, I should be able to get it off just by removing the bolts that I already took out & pulling a little right?

I could understand her saying that about my shock, it is too short.

No way she would ever say that about my johnson

    Thanks for the bump!

Yeah, that is why I was reluctant to pull that apart last night. I could see the whole thing exploding & parts flying across the garage. I should probablly get some gaskets & rebuild them anyways. I think I am going to take this whole son of a bitch back apart anyways. Go ahead & put the new axles in, get some new brake rotors & pads, clean & repack the wheel bearings.

I followed 4crawler in conjunction with the FSM and had no issues doing my rebuild (used all poop kit). the 4crawler writeup helps fill in some of the questionable areas where the FSM tends to be vague.

I was PISSED when I took off the first hub and the spring/hub gear/spring prawl flew out of there, by the way if this does happen the hub has been assembled wrong and you should inspect for damage. If everything is good in the hub NOTHING will fly out of it as you disassemble. That was the whole reason I ran the WARN hubs for a while until I could find replacement parts for my Aisin's. WARN hubs are known for catastrophic failure on Toyotas when running them hard with 35"+ meat/locker/chromo axles. They also Shear off hub studs because the WARN hubs to not make use of the factory cone washers.

did you try sticking a jack under the LCA on the side that is binding and lifting it so that the CV angle is so steep?

I can jack up on the LCA but once I get the ball joint into position it just binds up again. It just about has to be binding on the spline, I can't think of any other place. I think this is my fault, I pulled the upper ball joint a week & half ago to measure for the spacers & just left the LCA unsupported untill the other day. I should have put something under the LCA to hol it up.

Wouldn't the shock keep it from dropping too far? Or did you have that removed?

The shock was disconnected at the top, allowing it to drop further than it prob. should have.

Once I took the hub cover off, I realized why the hub wouldn't come off

Man does this thing need to be cleaned & regreased
    [IMG]

Started pulling on the CV joint when this happend. I could tell once the hub was off that it wasn't causing the binding, it had to be the CV joint. It looked liked the inner knuckle was moving around alot. I gave it a good jerk & it came apart completelly. So there you have it, seperated CV joint was causing the binding.

Also got all of the brakes & wheel bearings off.

Now I am going to clean & repack the bearings, order some parts from Napa & try to put this thing back together this evening.
