wooooweeee that hub looks nasty!! if you were to turn that hub over the hub clutch gear should fall out. cant tell for sure in the pic but it looks like you may be missing the small spring that goes between the prawl and hub clutch gear???? If you are, your locking hubs are not unlocking fully.

Not sure, I guess while I am at it, I might as well rebuild the other side hub also, maybe I'll go ahead & take it appart to see if it is different. Know of a good source for parts for the Asin hubs? I think I saw a rebuild kit on Marlin Crawlers site. Are the IFS & solid axle hubs different?

It took me forever on Marlin forum to find the hub parts i needed. Everywhere else I found was outrageously priced and you had to buy an entire hub. IIRC the difference in the IFS vs SA locking hub is depth but dont quote me on that. The mechanics of how they operate are the same. If that spring (in the video its the tension spring, the very first one he feeds into the clutch) is missing the hub will not draw the clutch back when turned to the unlock position.
I do have an extra one of those in my parts, let me know if you need it, its fo'free.

Alright man thanks, I will go ahead & pull the other side apart tonight & let you know. Pretty sure I am going to want that spring if you don't mind parting with your extra. Are you sure I can't pay you something for it?

I always have a sketchy feeling in my stomach with TG. I bet they are refurbished hubs.

Either way, I am glad to say I won't be buying either, Damn they are high

    LMAO!

I don't see why none of the auto parts stores carry the gaskets for the hubs? I have a big sheet of thin gasket paper, I guess I could cut out my own, or maybe just a light coat of silicone. I am not against ordering them from Marlin, I just can't afford to wait. I really need to get this thing on the ground, BVORR is in 8 days.

BTW Napa does not have all of my parts in stock so I won't have evrything untill tomorrow. They want $21 dollars each for the inner wheel bearing seals . I called O'reily's & they have 2 options, one for $18.99 & another for $3.29 . I think that the $3.29 ones will suit me just fine.

yeap, found a set of premium's for $175. I don't think they are as good as the Asin's though

Randy, would rear shocks off of a 1st gen Taco work on my rear?

Tension Spring headed your way tomorrow. The hub clutch in the pic is not in good shape. If yours has some of the spline nubs missing *(very top of the clutch in the pic) where the tension spring attaches, look into finding a new one, the spring will pop out easily if many are gone.

    Edit: *

Spline count is 26 for IFS, 30 for SA on the hub gear (gear at the base of hub where it slides over the axle). I'm not exactly sure about the other innards.

Me thinks you should just go ahead with the SAS:cool:

LOL, I've been told that a few times. Maybe at some point in the build it would be possible, but right now I am on too tight of a budget for that. I have really been looking hard at the Blazeland LT kit. You get both the LCA & UCA, Bushings & ball joints, axle shafts & shocks all for $1500. It's supposed to be good for 12" of travel. but for now I just want it to be reliable & wheelable for as cheap as possible. My Tacoma pays off at the end of this year, so maybe next year I will have some more $$ to play with.

I am still working on getting some more info on the hubs. With out taking them apart, I can already see some major differences, The clutch gear is held in place by a snap-ring, possibly eliminating the large spring? I'll take them all apart & take pictures & figure it all out as I go.

Looks like a no go on my factory Bilstein's on the front. The mounting & travel is correct, but they are just too damn long.

Actually I think they are going to work for the rear. I have a set of Gabriel something or other's that came off of Todd's truck when I installed his 5100's. I don't have an accurate travel measurement, but it is way more than 6".

I found these Pro Comp ES1000's, they sure are cheap. I might just go with them, it works out to like $130 shipped for all 4.

these Rough Country shocks are about the same price, any better?

I don't see this being my final suspension set up. The Blazeland kit will come with billies for the front. If anything I should but some cheapo's for the front & something nice for the rear, but I am still on the fence.

Sweet, I have to run to O'reily's on University at lunch, also thinking about swinging by the Army Surplus store on Texas Ave to see what they have for ammo boxes. Will be headed home at 5 today to get some more work done!

I really do think that those 1st gen taco rear I have are going to work on the back of my 4runner. If they do I may take my front shocks to the auto parts store & try to find some cheap sensa-craps or something that will bolt on, but have a tad more travel & call it a day. If the rears don't work then I will probablly order the Pro-Comp crap. If I ws going to order nice shocks I would only get them for the rear because future suspension changes will more than likely be for the front.
