This guy is selling a 1993 toyota pickup with 127,000 miles for $3,995. I've always liked these little trucks. Its at a little dealership in San Deigo called del norte auto sales. The trucks blue book is $2,200(in excellent condition). My question is he asking to much? How much should I offer? Need some advise!

Its only worth what you are willing to pay for it.

    That said,

I bought almost the exact same truck as far as looks. Mine was a 1996 white, regular cab, 5 spd in fairly good condition, same color interior. Mine was maybe cleaner than that one as I had no tears on seats. It had 102,000 miles at the time I purchased it. I paid $3000 for mine.

You state it is blue booked at $2200 and he is asking $3995 and you ask if he is asking to much for it. I think that is a given.

Go in with $2500 cash and if he says no then leave. if you are using a buy here/pay here situation then you may be at his mercy as someone without credit or the means will pay his price just to have a ride.

    Good luck.

It's bad enough to pay full NADA retail for a truck. It's even worse to pay $1795.00 over! I'd keep looking.

Yes, $2200 is reasonable. If they refuse, just walk away.

Don't offer up the full $2200 that you are willing to spend. start low like $1500? I doubt he paid that much for it. When he says no then just tell him well, I'm not going any higher than $1750 and that's all I think the trucks worth. If he still won't bite, then walk away. It's just a 20 year old truck after all. Don't get emotional about it. There are other trucks out there that private owners will sell for less than this guy.
Good luck and I do think the truck is nice.

That would be a good plan. I paid 1300 for a '91 GMC sonoma with about 115k in pretty good shape so around 1800 sounds good for a far superior toyota.

I sold my '93 for $5400 two years ago, with 156K miles on it. It was on Craigslist for one day, and the buyer PayPal'd me $3K to hold it, until he could come down from Ft. Worth 3 days later. I'm telling you this because book value sometimes doesn't mean squat for older vehicles. The guy who bought mine emailed me a couple days later, saying he was still smiling!

I remembered when I bought my 93 Nissan Hardbody new off of the showroom floor for $5000 and some change ($7000 plus my trade in). I think my payments was $124? Can't remember. It was just a plain jane without a radio or back bumper but I loved that truck!
Can't believe they are still going for almost that much still!
    Happy times!

I'm agreeing with most here. Bring 2500 cash if that's what you're willing to pay, but don't let him know that. THey love cash deals. I'd offer 2000 and show him the cash, if he says no, simply walk away and drive off the lot. Call him later that night or the next day and go higher.

Hell I got my 93' a couple years ago for $3000 and it had the same amount of miles on it. Its also 4x4 and extended cab. Your also paying for the name Toyota everyone knows the resale value of these things. but for that truck its a bit much. Like everyone else has said find what your willing to pay and if they dont like it walk away. if it hasnt sold try back in a week and see if they'll take it then to get rid of it.

look on craigslist, he can get atleast $3k. youre wasting your time if you wont spend more than $2500 for this thing. CL is the best place to see values of vehicles. KBB and nada mean dick with older vehicles. its supply and demand.

yea old toyotas go for way too much, when i was in college my buddy wanted one of these trucks, they were all 3k or more beat to hell and this was back in 2007.

He ended up getting a steal on a 90 4runner 3.0l v6 4x4 with 200k on it for $1000, still has it as far as i know
