I find this odd, I've installed fabtech, rough country and pro comp 6" lifts with 16" wheels with 4.5 backspace with no issue's, why does zone say 18" wheels are required?

I have a zone 6" lift, I just want to know why they say 18" wheels are required?

    I'm sure I don't understand.

You've had all three of those different lifts?

But now going with a DB lift?

    Ask "zone"
Why not stick with fabtech, pro comp or rough country for all your db lift needs?

I've installed several 6" tacoma lifts for other people, I get a good deal on this lift.

I'm not understanding; is Auto Zone making lift systems now?

I think 18" wheels is required, like @ryanjboutin said, so that the wheels wil match the over motif of this Auto Zone lift.

Well you should ask zone why, considering none of us made the lift nor even heard of zone.

This is just my opinion, but I'd never drop $1250 on a drop bracket, plastic coil spacers and rear blocks with "zone" shocks. Seems like a lot of money to spend on a crap lift to me. But that's the website price, I don't know what kinda deal you're getting. Either way, I'm pretty sure you could get a full OME 3 inch lift for that price that includes coils, struts, shocks and leaf springs (or at least an add a leaf), not shit spacers and blocks. Not to mention the superior functionality a full suspension kit has to offer over a drop bracket and spacers.
But hey, if you like form over function and spending a ton of money on no name garbage and big wheels, that's your business, bro.

Zone is the sister company of BDS people and the lifts are basically identical. The reason why they say 18" wheels are required is due to the tie rod being mounted from the top of the spindle mount versus from the bottom on the stock spindle. Some 17" wheels might be able to work op but it depends on the wheel. They also don't use plastic coils spacers like someone posted above

The skid plate is stamped differently and on the bds one of the differential mounts is a lil different. Also on the bds they offer the upgrade of the fox coilovers.

Thanks Born wild! ( one dude out of 10 with a response to the question) got the lift for 500, I already have a 3" lift (day one with 40 miles on a new truck, 3" long ad a leaf, u bolt flip, cut and boxed cab mounts, 33s) I don't live in the desert, I have a set of 35s ! I emailed zone yesterday, thought maybe someone on here, had I stalled one of these lifts already! My buddy installed a BDS lift with 17" wheels 4.5 backspace and said he could has plenty of clearance! It's funny how (I ask a fairly specific question on here, and a dozen people chime in, that don't have a clue)

The spacer doesn't preload the spring like installing a spacer on stock suspension. The spacer is used to make up the difference from dropping the crossmember down to achieve the lift. You can simply install the longer bilstein shocks used on the rcd lift kit therefore eliminating the top hat spacer.

I understand that, but the point I was tying to make is 1250 bucks for spacers, blocks and db seems like shit

I guess im confused on why drop bracket lifts are hated so much??

I have been looking at both the icon stage 4 or 5 and also the bds/zone 4in and I have had drop bracket lifts on my chevy trucks in the past(specifically bds) which road perfect and went offroad perfectly fine as well, BDS is also known for amazing quality and having probably the best warranty in the business. They achieve more lift yet keep the axles in a perfect position(stock position)

if I go 4in bds/zone I plan to get icon or fox coilover made instead of strut spacers and i would think it should drive amazing with coilovers no where near over pre loaded?? and even if I didn't do coilovers it should drive exactly like stock or way better than an over pre loaded coilover, I will also get a full new leaf pack EVENTUALLY instead of the block in the rear. So what am I missing besides a little less ground clearance?

Looking at the icons to get a full 3in everyone says they ride like crap on the road because the coils are running out of travel at 3in because they're so cranked up to achieve a small amount of lift,, multiple people have said this(not sure if travel is the right term)?? and the angles on the axles are in a horrible position, more wear and tare on my axles and barely enough lift for larger tires.

Cutting the crossmember kind of sucks but so does the CMC and with a full 4inches you wouldn't have to cmc. So are people really just regurgitating that DB lifts suck and have no idea what they're talking about or is there a real reason?? I would almost think a DB lift with coilovers and a good rear leaf pack would out perform a good quality 3" coilover lift, no harsh ride, full travel out of the shock and better axle angles???

Looking for honest facts not opinions? Im really open to either lift, just want to do it once and not twice thats all!
