Destroyed it going over some railroad tracks. It was dark and I couldn't see, but they must have been pretty serious.

Anywhoo, I read on some other threads that you bolt the silver coated skid plate accessory over the original. That's not a possibility for me. Is there an alternative?

    TIA

I don't take my taco off-roading. Unless you consider my little mishap urban off-roading:)

So, back to my orig question. Will the TRD plate replace the stock black plate or do I need to install the stock plate before installing the TRD aluminum plate?

    TIA

For $50-100 more, you can have a real skid plate vs the cheesy TRD Plate. You would be better off just replacing the original skid if you do not go aftermarket.

I believe the TRD bolts over the black one as the TRD is very thin for pretty only.

Not what I wanted to hear. If that's the case and the cost of purchasing both parts is compatible to an aftermarket plate then I guess I will have to go aftermarket.

    Thanks for the info.

I would just go aftermarket and be done with and have something that can take a beating. No sense replacing and adding the accessory one if you may end up just destroying again.

Forget the skid that comes with the Tacoma. It is for nothing more than stopping small rocks and dirt from hitting. There are several fabricators on here that produce very sturdy skid plates that do the job by themselves. I rattle canned primer and bedliner on mine.

If you're not off roading then why do you need a skid plate anyway?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    how about no?

aftermarket would resolve this and future issues. what the OP needs to look at is his usage and the costs/materials that would suit his needs.

if he wants to re-bolt a stock one on, they go for cheap and sometimes free on here in the B/S/T area.
