Jerez, was it a straight swap, or did you have to tap into the wires also?

Have part number? Price? Nearly $400 is kind of crazy ...

So is the Tacoma mirror more of a direct "plug" fit than the 4runner since the plug or pin/wire location is different?

i read somewhere on here where a guy doing this retrofit, theres not many of them so it wouldnt take much digging, was having a problem getting the 4 runner mirrors to line up on the body properly.

the other post in the main forum, a member wrote about sienna (sp) mirrors, puddle lights, heat, auto dimming

i dont think im going to push my luck though. im just going to do the tacoma sport parts

so Ive been searching and i haven't found the answer I'm looking for, if the truck has 5 wires going into the mirrors but only uses 3 with the off road mirrors why wouldn't the sport mirrors be a direct plug and play being they use all 5 wires on the 12+?
could there need to be a computer re flash or something to recognize them? i had to do that at GM for my 2000 Silverado to turn on the OEM fogs i added

I just upgraded my 2012 mirrors to the sport ones. This thread helped a lot and maybe should be moved to the DIY section...

for anyone else interested- my 2012 tacoma was pre-wired for the Sport turn signal mirrors. So, it was plug and play for my truck. I have a SR5 tacoma AC 4x4 with tow package if that helps. But i would advise this- if you are thinking of buying the mirrors and upgrading- it takes about 5 minutes to open your inner door panel. Look at the harness going to the mirror...if you see 5 wires going into your tacoma- then you are good to go and one less step to do the install...

i attached a pic of the mirrors.

I bought the mirror w/o the arm from Tacoma World buy/sell section off someone who upgraded their sport to the 4runner mirrors.

The painted mirror covers i bought from toyota parts sales...cheapest shipped to Hawaii I could find....

    hope this helps

I got just the reg pwr mirrors off a 2012 to add to mine. No pnp here. My doors only has speaker wires going in there. I will have to do some junkyard diving just to get the door harnesses and switch pigtails then do some wiring.

    Thanks for the excellent writeup.
My Taco is a 2012 ACLB PreRunner (no SR% package) and was not pre-wired in the doors (came without power mirrors).
Made up a couple of 5-wire WeatherPak Delphi harnesses to hook the mirror into the door. Re-terminated the mirror end with mating WeatherPak connectors.
Pulled the loom to the inside of the cab and used Sumitomo female crimp connectors to tie into the cab wiring.
:confused:Toyota used larger female terminals on the drivers side vs. the passengers side - luckily i had a few of the smaller size.
Had to run One wire to the knee panel fusebox for each signal. Tied those in following instructions from this Post: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/233340-turn-signals-independent-drl.html

Yea. You need to run the wiring for the turn signals
I added the 4Runner mirrors a few years back to my 08
There’s a couple threads on it. This ones been dead tho.

From reading this thread (and others) it would appear that this is only Plug and Play if you have an SR5? It doesn't seem to be Plug and Play with the TRD OR which is what I have. Curious as to why that is, but probably has to do with the computer settings for TRD OR vs TRD Sport/SR5. The OP said he had a 5 wire harness in his truck to connect to the new Sport 5 wire mirrors (vs the 3 wire ones that came on his TRD OR) but it did not work so that makes me think it's a computer setting. Probably easier (like he said) to tap the wires instead of trying to reflash the computer which lord knows what issues could arise from that.

This is a very helpful thread. Thank you! I guess it's best just to plug them in and see, and worst case you spend a little time to find and tap into the blinker wires.

    Thanks!!

Gave up on junkyard and manually ran wiring for my blinkers back in April.
