I have a 2013 Tacoma. I dont plan on doing any crazy off-roading anytime soon, but I do take it out to the desert, on some mountain trails, through some streams here and there, and up in the mountains to the snow. I thought about adding steps, but everyone says they just lower your clearance and are crap. I dont want to add anything to my truck that is worse off than when i started :)

I like how sliders look more streamlined tot he truck and now lower down like some steps. I also like how they seem to protect from runaway grocery carts, sometimes door dings. Also if I do get in a pinch, I will be glad I had them right? even if it means I am deep in crap and need to use my farm jack to get me out. Also, people could still use them as a step it seems.

I think I want to go bolt-on rather than weld.

I was thinking Famous Fabrication but he is no longer fabricating (I called him).

His look like they are structurally built very well.

I saw threads talking about Avid Offroad sliders. These look no better than factory step side junk
    [IMG]

AllPro looks like SoCal so I could drive to get them. They have two, the AllPro and the Apex. Not sure I need the Apex, but the way they mount looks great.

    I read this thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/199562-sliders-2nd-gens.html

My god there are sooooo many!!

I am 34 years old, I like the look of the truck stock, but liked the look of another MGM and think these sliders from Famous Fabrication look great.
So I dont want to spend $900 but I am okay with $6-700 if need be. no need to go cheap with $220 for something that is inferior. But I dont want my truck looking like its an insane offroading rig :)

    HELP?

B.A.M.F. makes some very nice sliders as well..shipping would cost ya, but yeah.

I can't really have a say in this, because last month I won a set of All-Pro's APEX sliders in a contest. :anonymous:

Yeah I read saying they are just for looks. They say cannot take weight on them, yadda yadda. I dont want "just for looks".

The All-Pro stuff looks legit. They show 951, so me being in north county San Diego, I could prob cruise up there to the 909... err 951 :)

All Terrain Fabrication in Yucca Valley did mine. Mark does great work. They will run you about $500. He will build them however you want.

Yeah, they're actually in the process of moving to Perris, so just off the 91/215.

I'm going to pick mine up from them soon. Just not sure when it'll be there :pout:

Check out trail gear sliders cheap for the bolt on ones and are so heavy Dudy. Btw I bolted mine on just for the lower holes and welded the tops because drilling 6 holes per leg is not desirable . You can't get bolt on sliders with out having to drill several holes and eat bits. Just buy the weld on ones and find a shop to weld them.

I'm also waiting on a set from AP. They had already moved to Perris when I called on 2/4.

I was given an ETA of 2wks...we'll see.

The All-Pro sliders require the least amount of drilling. However, as a byproduct, the bolt holes are not in the most optimal locations, requiring the large doubler plate. The All-Pro sliders are therefore slightly heavier than CBI, Beefed Taco, etc.

Bolt-on sliders can be more secure than weld-on sliders, because the 2nd-gen frame is double-walled. Welding would stress only the outer wall, whereas bolt-on spreads the load more evenly across both walls.

Beefed Taco sells a clamp-on step for sliders, easily removed for off-roading: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/beefed-taco/138280-bolt-steps-sliders-here.html

Man this is so ironic for timing. I have just today been looking through the vendors also and trying to figure out the same thing. My truck has the factory step rails which are sort of awkward for use. My wife likes having steps even though the factory's aren't that useful. I would like some for protection. So I want to find a medium. Some that bolt on preferably since I'm still under warranty. Don't know if welding would void it but imagine it would. But I've just been trying to figure out if any bolt on's would be any good for protection? At any rate the bolt on's would have to be more protective than the factory rails, aside form door dings anyway, the factory steps are quite good at protecting from that.

I have BEEFED sliders, Brian makes a well designed bolt on slider option. Even down to the mounting hardware. Check my build thread for pictures. He makes three width options, I went with the mediums.

I just purchased a set of these. Do you think i will be able to jack the truck up with my hi-lift jack on these? They seem adequate. I'm planning on welding them since it is recommended by Trail gear to do so. Any input would be great, thanks

4x innovations make a real good set. Just make sure you order the right size lol. I was caught up in the jubilations of buying tacoma stuff and orderd the wrong size, as you can see here we had a little work before mounting.
