Finally got around to mount the firestick , I didn't want to drill any holes in the truck so I removed the drop in bed liner, removed the tie down hook and went to work.

Using my oxy aceteylene torch I Braised these parts, sand blasted/ painted them, ran a ground wire to one of the mounting bolts just for good measure.

This is the final result, minus the actual firestick, I'll pick that up on Monday. That black wire is the ground that I bolted behind the tie down bolt, I left it long until I actually mount the firestick.

Herer is a better shot of the final product, then using an existing gromet, I can run the coax to the radio right behind the bed

For about a week I have been working on a new idea for mounting the CB in the cab.

I am preparing a detailed overview of what I did but just to sum it up:

I took apart a Cobra 29 LTD Classic (very common CB for truckers over the past 20 years). The only problem is that it is giant radio and hard to find a place to mount.
I cut all the wires connecting the face plate to the main circuit board (buttons, switches and displays) and spliced in longer wires. This way I can place the face of the CB almost anywhere I want and place the body of the radio somewhere else like under the seat.

When I finish I will post pics and more details.

Near the rear tire on the left side is what I used as my ground. Directly underneath the gas cap. You can't miss it. Two pictures included.

As far as the small metal piece in the middle of the bracket and the washer is this metal piece. All I do is cut it to the length of the bracket and drill two holes that will match up with the bracket as well. You can find this at the Home Depot. This provides the necessary support to prevent the antenna from moving side to side.

Special thanks to Albert for his help and directions, in addition to everyones ideas on here. I finally installed my CB today, took me about 4 hours!! I visited Home Depot twice, autozone twice, pep boys once, and kragen once. LOL. It was a long day but I can honestly say it was worth every minute of it. [Albert: I didnt end up using your rail bracket idea] but I mounted nearby. My install came out super clean with no wires showing and no messy job which I love. I finished in the dark so I hope to post pics tomorrow or sometime this week.

Exactly what I wanted to do! What radio did you use? And do you have a build thread on how to do it?

I have no knee rub but couldn't say for a manual transmission. Placement though is spot on for me.
