Hey David found your seven sisters writeup really helpful on my trip! Just got back on Nov 6th, did 9 days through that area. Wanted to ask about your truck setup, I have a '23 TRD OR and was riding pretty low with all the water / fuel / gear, think a lift is next but saw you're in a very similar rig that also uses airbags. Any thoughts on that combo? Has it worked well for you off-road?

I did measurements of the lift at various pressures, too. Search for that post if you want. Happy to chat Baja too... Do you have my book? The missions are a super-interesting subject, to visit or study. My Baja Bound Road Guide is ready to publish...

David sorry I never responded to these! I got so lost in all the research I never saw these responses. Had an amazing trip, so good I'm going back in a few weeks haha. Got the baja bug big time. I read a whole bunch of your posts, trip reports, and used the Baja California road & recreation atlas extensively - such great resources. Would love to buy a copy of your guidebook, is that published yet?

helping me plan a trip would be greatly appreciated. im actually trying to head down there next weekend. just waiting for my RTT to arrive. going down with a buddy to camp on the beach and shore dive for some spearfishing. If you could point me in the right direction it would save us a lot of trial and error with potentially no success. anyway, im gonna read through your website now. looking forward to ur reply.

If you want to spearfish/ dive... then I would say head to Bahia de los Angeles. It has everything from campgrounds to hotels. The bay is full of islands to dive off of aor drive north to La Gringa to snorkel off the gravel beach, across from Smith Island.

L.A. Bay is 8 hours from San Diego, so leave early. Top your gas tank at El Rosario, if going Hwy. 1. Hwy. 5 has 23 unpaved miles, otherwise a nicer drive in my opinion via Calexico and San Felipe.

Hi David K...After going through a few posts, I found you to be the premiere expert. I saw a post where you said all Off Road Tacomas have a rear locker. After going to Toyota's web site, I was under the impression that there is no rear locker, but then I saw your post. Why doesn't Toyota list that spec on their web site...or does the 2015 no longer have it (your post is from 2011)? Thanks!

Hi Jason, I do not work for Toyota and do not have special knowledge of their publications, etc. I can tell you about my three Tacomas (2001, 2005, 2010) and perhaps some others who I have off roaded with. As far as I know all Off Road TRD Tacomas have a locking rear differential.

Since 2009, the 4WD Off Road TRDs also have A-TRAC (which is almost like lockers on the front and rear, for traction). The 2016 incorporate A-TRAC into the Terrain Control system, as best as I can figure.
