Except I've been offroad with Tacomas, they're wider, heavier, have less HP less Torque and most importantly less options for aftermarket. I'm not being a dick just speaking what I know.

You really have no idea the amount of aftermarket the Tacoma has behind it do you.

Sure you can put 2-3K into anything and it'll match a Jeep, put a stock Jeep with 2-3K in it and a truck has no chance. I'm not being a dick, just pointing something else out altogether. I don't specifically drink Koolaid of any vehicle. Jeep is bad ass but they're no Range Rover, Roange Rover is no Hummer.... You get my point.

Go easy on the new guy. We're trying to sell him on the Tacoma…remember? Besides, I didn't know either until I bought my first Tacoma.

Yes I have but you have to remember the Tacoma and jeep wrangler are two very different beasts. The Tacoma is meant for hauling stuff around and the jeep is just dedicated to full time off roading. I will give you that the jeep has a better aftermarket but I has been around for 70 years and the Tacoma has been around for about 20.

From one Arirmen to another I'll tell you I've seen enough broken ass busted white toyotas in Afghanistan to make me realize they aren't that great off road. I've 4 years+ there and have seen Toyota isn't the legandary vehicle everyone makes it out to be in the mountains, even with a diesel 4X4 I can't get in the US I've seen, pulled out, and demoed enough to know they get stuck as shit.

I hope you don't take anything too harshly here. Us Tacoma owners are REALLY proud. Hard to find a community more in love with their vehicles. Kind of an unspoken but very vocal battle between jeeps and Tacos.

I'll go ahead and say I own a first gen, so it may not be relevant to you, but Toyota reliability, big aftermarket, decent gas mileage, and the 4.0 is a pretty nice motor. Toyota guys are super chill and this place is great. The stock diff locker makes Toyotas very nice offroad. Now considering you'll probably be in a DCLB Taco, having a beater jeep to wheel in is smart, just expect some flak from us :D

If I had an unlimited amount of money to buy a truck to NOT offroad in, I'd buy a powerstroke, followed closely by a Taco.

Now if I was rich and wanted to wheel, I'd be a Tacoma 10 out of 10 times just because of the great community, stock capabilities, large aftermarket, and reliability.

Plus, you can get a Toyota supercharger.

Not too many forced induction jeeps out there :D

I will return the favor and not be a dick. I will just give you the facts. I have owned Jeeps, and Toyota trucks. I have better success with the Tacoma than the Jeeps. While jeeps have the advantage of a solid front axle, they have a disadvantage in that things break....a lot.....often. I have been on trail runs with 6-8 jeeps, and over half have ended the trip with SOMETHING broken. Last trip I took with the Toyota trucks, we had something like 12 trucks, and had two that had a problem, one was with tires, and the other was field repaired in 5 minutes and still finished the run. Yes, the Tacoma is wider and heavier. An advantage when traction is an issue. Also, if you have been a wheeler you should know that it is 90% driver and 10% truck. I have out-wheeled Jeeps in my Nissan Pathfinder I used to have. As for options, there are hundreds of options that we see here. It is the same thing for every truck: you don't really notice what is out there and available until you own one. The Toyota aftermarket is still growing fast.

Resale value is not so much about what it would be worth if you wanted to sell it. resale value has to do with several factors:

    • Longevity
    • Dependability
    • Cost of repairs
    • Reliability
    • Demand
and others. Demand is a big factor. People really want these trucks. So they retain value longer. So why care about resale? Simple, it shows you that the Tacoma is a popular and reliable truck, because everyone wants on. Also, in the off chance that you decide to sell it, or TRADE it for a newer Tacoma, you have a lot more equity.

I used to be in the Jeep world. What happened? I saw the truth and have never turned back.
