I had to replace the right front wheel bearing today, it has been making a bit of noise for the last few weeks. I have 132,000 miles on the truck. Just wondering who else has had to replace their front wheel bearings. What mileage did you have to do it at. Should I go ahead and replace the left side at this time or should I be okay, not sure why this one went out. Could have been the time the boat trailer ran into my right front tire.

Wow you are lucky most people make it nowhere near what mileage you have before replacing them.

My '95 Isuzu Rodeo is pushing 290,000 miles and has had the wheel bearings repacked once. They are quite as a mouse and much easier to maintain.

I've read a lot of complaints on this forum about 2nd Gen Wheel Bearings. I can't help but wonder if it's a design issue.

I have 115k on my 2nd Gen and haven't had to replace my wheel bearings. Of course, it was running the stock wheel/tire configuration for 114k of those miles. Any time you change the geometry and the pressures on the wheel hub by lifting it and running wider wheels/tires you run the risk of advanced wear on the wheel bearings which is probably why a lot of people end up replacing them earlier on this forum.

I had both replaced 2 weeks ago. Mine is an '07 with 97k miles. The front driver side was grinding pretty bad. Took it to my guy who replaced it then checked the passenger side bearings. Those too were on their way out. I think it's easy to do yourself. I don't have time or the will to try. It cost me almost $600 to replace both.

Not sure why front wheel bearings are failing so often......when broken open, the failed bearing was somewhat dry of lub.

The entire bearing/hub set is as beefy as the set on my full size chevy truck - and its like 1000 pound heavier truck.

My left front started going at 104000, and I replaced the right side too even though it was still good.

Not wanting to jinx myself here but I've been on 35" tires for 52,000 miles and I'm still on my original bearings. (20k of those miles on +2 LT)

I plan on replacing them next time I do a front end overhaul when I do my bushings and take everything apart for inspection next spring. Then I'll keep my originals as trail spares. ;)

Replaced the front right at 95,000 miles (costs $466 at the shop) and front left at 112,000 miles with a prebuilt kit myself ($165). This is on my 07' 4x4.

Running 35" tires & wheel spacers contribute to my bearings tapping out.

Original Tacoma: 6" lift, air bags in the rear, 17x9.5 XD Series rims w/ 35" Cooper STT Pro tires. Body Armor rear bumper with swing arm tire mount, TRD Exhaust, URD True Cold Air intake, TRD Front Brakes, RIGID INDUSTRIES grill and LED bar installed in it, LED Rear Lights, TracRack rack system, tool box. Sold the truck. Bought 2016 ram 2500 Laramie diesel. (7/2016) Picked up 97 Tacoma 4x4 Extended Cab 3.4L. Building motor now. (8/2017)
Running 33" since almost new and have 60k miles on my 2012 DC LB. I tow and have regular payload of 500lbs or so. And tow around 6k lbs. almost daily. Luckily no issues yet. But from the sound of things on this thread, I may need to consider the possibility that one is going to fail soon..

Plenty of great products so far !
Just bought an 07 double cab 4x4 with 94,000. I've replace all front suspension components. Started with passengers side bearing going bad. A shop in FL sells a Koyo bearing Dorman bearing / hub assembly complete for $175 per side plus shipping! When I took what I think we're the original to the truck. The parts were stamped with the same brands! Light Racing UCA's
    New Toyota LCA's
    All new bushings cam adjusters
    OME 2886 springs
