Or maybe I should just forget my dakars and Chevy 63 swap to fix it

I don't remember about that part, the leaf pack might need to be oriented in a certain way. But driver side/passenger side is what I was referring to.

    63s FTW.

You never said specifically what is out of whack?
If it's camber, something is bent.
If it's toe (positive on both sides or negative on both sides), something is bent.
IF it's toe (positive on one side, negative on the other which causes a dog-leg while driving) then it's just not centered. If the packs are oriented correct (front to rear), most the time you can recenter on your own. Just jack up the rear of the truck and rest on jack stands by the FRAME. Let the axle float freely and loosen all the ubolts so you get some wiggle room. Give it a good shake and tighten all the u-bolts back up.

Toe is out.. I have so much droop that I don't think my jack stands can go high enough to free float the rear, i'll have to use a car lift. Thanks though that definitely helps!

If there's one thing I've learned from my very limited experience, it's to never sacrifice uptravel for the sake of down. My old flat leaf setup with extended shackles was a huge mess, but when I was uniformed, I thought the droop looked cool. Maybe I've never seen a proper setup, but every Chevy 63 swap I've seen has super flat leaves with like 2" of uptravel. Not saying they don't have their place though.

Anyways, glad to see this thread reinvented with some useful information in a more organized manner. I should be going proper midtravel this spring, so I'm soaking up all the information I can.

Jack under the axle, remove the rear wheels and let the truck down on the jack stands under the frame. I have so much droop that I cannot put mine on jack stands either unless I remove the wheels

Yeah that's a dog leg. Borrow or buy some bigger stands or get creative with 12x12 concrete blocks or wood. Also take your tires off so the axle is easier to manipulate and you get more clearance to the floor on droop.
If I can droop out my truck in my garage, I'm sure you can as well. 12 tons FTW

I need some 1st gen love for MT builds, can anyone shoot me some links prease?

I've done enough avoiding work this AM and updated a shit ton on the first 3 posts. I apologize in advance if I have not linked your MT build. I have a few left to link from my followed list left and the rest I haven't found yet.

Was thinking for the "What Brand of shocks" question to just link each manufacturers page and keep it simple.

Any other suggestions please PM me or post.

    Thanks

I'd put the differences between King, Icon, Fox and ADS and "which brand is best for you"

You won't unless you build a string box. But the majority of the time, you just need to loosen, shake, tighten.

For the what brand of shocks, why not just link the fox vs king vs icon thread?

    Okay makes sense thanks!

I completely forgot about that thread, but I just thought a quick overview of each so people don't have to look through that thread of arguments, but either works.

That's not an easy task. My knowledge only goes with what I've owned. Icon and King and that's it and I wouldn't consider myself anywhere near qualified to answer it. It would go something like this...

King - Progressive rate shocks from OEM replacements to race. This is one of the most popular choices for builds.

    Fox -

ADS - A newer manufacturer on the block and the 1st to make a OEM replacement rear bypass

Icon - Digressive valving blah blah blah...

Toytec - Affordable lift kits and a lot of bang for the buck.

OME - Outback proven kits that will be far superior to OEM shocks. These kits are not rebuildable but offer a great value.

This thread is great guys and I hope it will help cute down on repeat questions, though something tells me it won't. Certainly worth a shot.

It won't, there still will be the random repeat but at least we can easily just say go to the 1st page for info before asking.
