Whats the best way to do this mod on my 2012 my small box looks just like the pick above but do I just connect a wire from relay to one of the green circles in the pic or do I need a inline fuse from orileys? Please lmk thanks

that is super clean, but some trucks, particualry bases, do not come with that slot populated. hence, tow tail method prob the best for them (me).

if you buy a spare fog light relay you can bend the tab on it, keep your stock relay in your glove box.

that is a pretty slick method! i wish my truck was provisioned for heated seats and had wires there like some of the other trucks.

Thanks B737, my truck does have the relay just above the fog relay. That is the one tapped into. I typically turn off my fog light switch anyway. ;-)
Well...

I know this was/is a sticky, but wanted to pass on my results of this mod as well as changing factory white bulbs to the Nokya Arctic Hyper Yellow 45W fogs...

The mod I used was previously posted by lextech...pull the fog relay and bend tab #1 flat...connect a 22g-18g female blade connector...take short length of 18g wire and splice and crimp/mate with the female blade connector connected to tab #1 on the fog relay, re-install the fog relay...then take the other end of the 18g wire, splice, and insert the spliced end of wire into socket #3 of the towing tail relay...re-install the towing tail relay...this mod took all of five minutes...I also swapped out my stock fogs for the Nokya Arctic Hyper Yellow fogs...I'll post some illuminated pics tommorrow...also, remember to swap out the rubber gaskets from the factory fog bulbs to the Nokya's so that they fit properly!!

The fog light mod is great...

fogs come on with parking lights...
fogs come on with headlights...
fogs come on with high beams...
the mod this way is "fuse protected"...
I did notice that the green fog on illumination on the dash does not illuminate when the fogs/parking lights are on, but when you switch to headlights it illuminates...

great mod...fool-proof...no splicing...or having to remember if you turned off your fogs as with the other fog light on anytime mods...this way the fogs turn off with the factory timer off light switch...
Do you know if after doing this mod there is any issue with lighting for trailers? I.e blowing relay/fuses because trailer hooked up as well while fog light mod is operational?

The current draw of a typical relay is going to be less than 0.2A, while your trailer lights are probably pulling 3A+ unless they're LED. It's a really tiny amount of overhead on the electrical system. Not sure off the top of my head what it's fused at, but it shouldn't be a problem.

I know you have covered how to get aftermarket fog lights to stay on with either hi or low beams. But I am in PA. and they have to shut off with the Hi beams. Hoow to do that with a universal kit. Please

Did this mod, took like 10 minutes. spent more time looking for spare wire than anything else. I'm curious to know if this is a load bearing wire, or if it's just a switch wire... anybody know?

If you look closely at the pin-out diagram on the first post, compare it with where the wire is coming out you can see which pin it is. If memory serves, if the relay is facing down, its the top right one. Each pin is labeled.

Did this mod today and it came out great. Took all of 5 minutes and couldn't be happier with the results.

Just did mine in the dark lol. I have a 14' Base 4x4. My truck came pre-wired. Bought fogs and switch from a member here. Only had the fog light spot and Spot above it with wires coming up on the small relay box. Bought 2 relays of eBay look just like factory Denco ones for 9 bucks. Put one relay in for fog light, bent the tab connected wire and ran it into the main relay box. With the second relay, I found my towing tail that I didn't have a relay in either(glad I got two not just one like I was going to) and pushed the other end of the wire down with the relay. Lights now work how I want! Took a few minutes but happy with the outcome. Worth doing it the safe way with the towing tail so everything works as should and don't have to worry about splicing into wires and having electrical problems. Thanks for the help everyone.

trying to wire mine like this so i dont have to splice.

i bought the spade connectors. but how far do i have to stick the spade connector in.
it goes in but it's not shoved in there.
is that as far as it need's to go? i really dont want to cut the green wire or solder or use the quick splices

I did this on my 2011. Just bought a 06. Can't remember, will I still have trailer lights with this mod?

Does anyone know if there's a way to just deactivate the circuit which kills the fogs when the high-beams are on?

Ideally I'd like to put that on an extra relay so I can switch that on/off and use the fogs with high-beams off road and keep it legal on the highway.

image.jpg Done after weeks of obsessing of which route to use to finally get get my fogs to turn on when I wanted them. The level of accomplishment I feel is waaaay out of proportion to the actual skill level required to do this.

Purchased a couple of OEM relays in case I ever need to take truck to stealership for electrical work under warranty. Will just take out the relay with the bent leg and pop one of these in.
