What makes you say that? From what I've seen SET and GST dealers are worse than any where else when it comes to fees and most people I have contacted are saying MSRP. I'm not even at $500 over invoice as is if the $650 dealer fee is included in that. Currently their offer is $1244 over invoice if you include the dealer fee in the math. $595 over invoice if dealer fee is not included in math.

I say that on a high level, cause the demand really is in SoCal. Everyone else in the country is selling for close to invoice. A dealer in Ohio stated he is selling at invoice. I'd wait unless you have to have it.

Hm okay. Should dealer fees be included in the math when determining cost over invoice? I'm guessing yes but I know a lot of people here do the math different so all of these reported "x over invoice" posts must be taken with a grain of salt.

Of course. I know there is a Southwest Region fee on top of destination too, but I am not sure if that is negotiable or not. Hopefully your not paying TDA, or a low TDA. Some people say TDA is non-negotiable but I factor it in cause its part o what comes out of my wallet. I'll just find a dealer with no TDA.

Just me just add- I've seen so many forum members say they can't wait for a better deal, but most of them have cracked and already purchased their vehicle. I can't blame them or you if you decide to go that direction.

There is no TDA in my quote. Southeast region fee was $925 and he claimed that to be non-negotiable but once I said I would just go to Tennessee to avoid it he waved it. Clearly they will still be making money off me, enough to cover the $925 region fee in the event that they do have to pay it. If I factor the region fee out, my price would be $319 over invoice.

What I'm trying to figure out is what exactly this infamous $500 over invoice (good deal) amount actually is because some include things that others don't such as region fees, TDA, dealer fees, doc fees, etc. If even one of these items is not included in the math to get "x over invoice" the value will be substantially different.

I am no math teacher like he is, I am an engineer. But, that doesn't matter. This is simple arithmetic. I add everything up and compare it to invoice price. The only thing you can't control or have the dealer "eat," is Tax, Title and License.

And I am somewhat skeptical about some of these great deals others members have gotten. TacoBella of his for $500 over invoice but that included all the BS fees. Another guy in FL got a hellava deal with a special order truck. I am sure others have got great near invoice deals without fluff, but I am sure there is padding added to these invoice prices after its all said and done.

Doggman: Is that based on you ordering the vehicle, or do they have it in stock?

I ordered the exact same vehicle on Nov. 7, except I had mud flaps, not the tonneau. I wrote a rough contract on plain paper spelling out $34k even with ONLY TTL added. If you get what you quoted, I would consider that a very good deal. I am still waiting on mine. My gut tells me it will be February (early?) that this one rolls in. Unless the dealership is hosing me . . . (Dallas) It seems like prices are coming down and dealerships are willing to negotiate a little more.

They will have to order it. The $35,149 total I mentioned is before tax. Tax is ~4.75% and title is $16.50 so OTD is around $36,800.

Haha, I'm an engineer myself. I was in no way dismissing your input in favor of his. I appreciate your comments. I too am very skeptical about some of the deals posted in here. I fear some people do not take the same approach as you and add all costs before comparing it to invoice.

I've just been watching this thread since it started and Z50King has more posts in here than anyone. He analyzed what seemed like hundreds of Tacoma sales and for that reason I am interested in his opinion.

I am sure he will post here. He couldn't wait, and made his purchase in Dec. He still very active in this thread.

    TRD Off-Road/double cab/long bed (7568), super white (040), gunmetal grey (015), tow (TO), 4-season floor mats (C8). MSRP = $36,339

I emailed 30 dealers in WA and OR. Within 24 hours I had made a deal for invoice + $550 + TDA ($739) = $34,886 ($1453 below MSRP). With 9.8% sales tax ($3419), license ($225), title ($50), and gas ($10) the OTD price is $38,590. [Sales tax is high in WA, but no state income tax.]

Of the 30 dealers I contacted, the range of responses was as high as MSRP + TDA + $249 doc + tax + license + gas, and as low as MSRP - $1000 + TDA + $150 doc + tax + license + gas. I couldn't find anyone who would waive the TDA, as much as I would have liked to avoid it.

A shocking number of dealerships seemed not to grasp the internet sales concept, with replies such as, "We can't offer our best price unless you meet our sales manager in person."

And 3 different dealerships offered me the same truck (identical VIN), at 3 wildly different prices!

Thanks to this thread I ended up saving almost $1500 over the best initial offer, never set foot inside a showroom, and spent less than 2 hours online. Hats off to NoDak!

What dealership did you end up going through? This whole TDA thing got me fired up with one dealer last night. I'm currently deployed and have been since before the truck came out. I told him that advertising had nothing to do with why I wanted to buy the truck. And that it's a disgrace that Toyota adds that on to a vehicle to lower dealerships advertising overhead. He said there is nothing he could do about it.

    Dog hair.
Just as an update, I dropped the original dealership who, after 4 weeks with my deposit, hadn't "found" me a truck. Luckily I was on vacation for two of those weeks anyways. Walked into Toyota of Nashua this past Friday, picked up my new SIlver Sky TRD OR DCSB with tow, mudguards, and all weathers for $33,700 out the door.

You couldn't slap the smile off my face.

So...anyone here live in CA, but buy from out of state? I'm wondering what the process/taxes and fees were to get the truck back to CA. I.E. If i bought in south carolina, would they or CA actually charge me tax since i live here? or would i get the benefit of the $300 max tax?

trying to figure out the cost/benefit of going way out of the way...esp with the drive (gas and wear and tear) across country or even from closer states.
