I put mine on soft city drive. And put 7 stiffness when I go off road so I won't bottom out that much.

Overkill in my opinion. Shit, I got a stage 4 and I think that's overkill for my build. You should look at what some of the real overland guys are building. Guys that know what they're doing will tell you that you really only see the benefit of reservoir shocks if you are hauling ass for extended periods of time (which I try not to do off road- and not really what overlanding is about). You can probably piece together a kit better suited for more travel (which is what you'd want in an overland build) for a lot less than what you'd pay for an Icon stage 5 kit. That being said, I got a stage 4 because resi shocks look badass! Haha! I'm really probably not going to ever push them to their full potential, but as the saying goes: I'd rather have it and not need it...
I've actually been thinking about getting rid of my icon rears for some Bilsteins. Check these out, it's something to think about:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/installed-rear-extended-travel-5100s-f4-be5-b110-t5.217071/

And before anyone jumps on me, that's just my opinion. I'm not calling anyone else's parts junk or anything like that. Cory asked, I answered.

The valve controls soft and stiffness or the ride. Some shocks (use for long travel) has a rebound option.this option gives the shocks ability how fast the reaction during bumpy road

For weight, I'd recommend going with the 700# spring upgrade up front and something like Dakars or Expos for the rear. But if you're not going to get armor right away, stick with the 650# springs that Icon comes with, otherwise your ride will be stiff as fuck up front. You can upgrade later and sell the 650 springs.

Not going to say they perform better because I've never ridden on them, but I guess it depends on specific application. The bilsteins have more travel than the icons will give you without a custom build from Icon. This translates to more droop and more compression. Icon would more than likely have the edge at speed- say on Power Line at Gorman for example. And I don't think the billies could keep up with that. I'm not a brand groupie where I'm going to say one is better than the other, but I think they each have their place. Again this is all speculation from what I've researched (and I mean researched, not just reading Amazon reviews) since I haven't ridden on the billies. It really comes down to what your intended purpose is for the truck. From what I know about you, you like the outdoors and are not afraid to push your truck a bit. I'd recommend the billies on the rear (with a good leaf pack) since they're only a few hundred dollars compared to Icon and you can use the savings to go all out on the front- UCAs and resi shocks up there where it would really count since most of your weight and travel is going to be there. Take my opinion with a grain of salt- ask around and see what other people have to say from real experience. Not just, "I read on the forums that..." I've found that if someone's suspension review starts with "these things look badass", you should probably stop reading there.

I would do both at the same time because if you use your short stock leaves with the longer shocks, you could potentially bottom out and break something. Or vise versa. The saying goes buy once, cry once!

Thats what I got and I love them. There's the common squeak, which I haven't gotten yet, but that's an easy fix. They ride high when they're new, but break in really nice. With at least 100 pounds in the bed, they smooth out like a motherfucker. On the street with no weight they are a little stiff but no that much more than a new stock truck.

You will no matter what, but they break in. Throw a few sandbags back there to speed that up. Check out this thread for Icon part numbers. There was some confusion in the beginning, but I think they sorted it out. Turns out I might have the wrong shock for my setup, but DILLIGAF?

Like I said, I did some research...

You guys that know me know that I'm no suspension expert by any means. I'm still learning but I've compiled a shit ton of info and I'm just trying to pass it on to help in any way that I can. I'm not saying I'm right or that I can pick the best setup for you, just presenting my findings... We all work hard for our money and I think we should enjoy it however we please. I'll never talk shit about someone's setup other than my own. If it works for you, rock on man!

Just realized that my last few posts make it sound like I know what I'm talking about...

I run with icon res with icon add a leaf and I love it. I read some of the review drakkar leaf pack are stiff rides, Although there can take more load than the icon add a leaf.
