Hello All, honest thoughts on 16' Tacoma

    First post here.
    Thinking of a '16 Tacoma.
Had a '14 Ram Laramie 4x4 Crew Cab and the Tacoma would be my 2nd truck I've ever owned. I'm pretty much a car guy.

    But trucks have their advantages.
I've never needed a full size truck so that's why I'm considering the Taco.

Question for those of you who have owned both:
Do you have any regrets getting the smaller midsize Taco over a full size truck?
I will never be towing a large boat or RV, so towing isn't that much of an issue.
However, on Toyota's website, they list the towing of the Taco at 3,500 lbs max. Is that correct? The Colorado is at 7,000 lbs.
My wife's Odyssey Elite minivan is rated at 3,500 lbs towing, so I'd of thought the Taco was higher.

I'm sure there are a boat load of positives about the Taco, so I won't ask, but if you could list 1 or 2 of your biggest disappointments with the 16 Taco, what would they be?

    Thanks for your input.

You'll be coming from a fullsize to a mid, so you'll be able to fit into a lot of places you couldn't normally fit in. That's always a plus.

I'm sure a few 3rd gen owners could tell you more.
    @CaptAmerica I summon you!

I'm pretty sure the V6 3rd gen can tow 6,800 lbs and 1,200 lbs in the bed. I have no problems with my tacoma other that the lower than average MPG but I know some people on here have had some major issues.

My advice would be to read the complaints as @tomwil posted above and then keep in mind those complaints as you test drive, that way you are more knowledgeable on the possible problems you could occur, also keep in mind that many of the problems have solutions as well.

Towing package for $650 makes the towing capacity 6,800 pounds. I love the truck. I'm currently at 8500 miles and it's comfortable and easy to drive. Trailered my motorcycle the other day which was about 1800 pounds and never noticed it. I'll be pulling a 4000lb boat in the summer so I'm curious to see how it handles that.

Limited wheels, extra rope hooks in bed.
My biggest complaint is the steering wheel is way, way too far away from me (6 ft. tall) to be comfortable and could tilt down a little more....and the telescoping feature is worthless, just worthless!

I have crew cab Sport 4WD with every option and it is my first truck...if don't count the Mazda B3000 I bought my son years ago. Zero complaints. I have had mostly Lexus vehicles(5), Mecedes-Benz and BMW. I only have 2000 miles on it, but if it lives up to Toyota/Lexus reliability, I will still be happy. Great gas mileage for a truck, short turning radius, quiet, comfortable, JBL is good and safety features! My wife loves the powerful heated seats and sunroof. It handles snow with stock tires and 4WD with no problem. I have not used tow package yet, but I believe 6500lbs. I say, "go for it!" Just get the options you want from the factory.

I love my truck, 2500k on her now. Tow rating is 6800 with the v6, engine takes a bit of getting used to from a fullsized truck as well the overall size of the truck. All in all i love my taco and recommend them to everyone. Gas mileage could be better, but it is still a truck. Its a little late in the year now, i would wait a few more months and wait for a 17 taco or wait for toyotas redtag days and get a good deal. Or come up to canada.

So many negative post and polls, I'd like to see a poll who "doesn't" have any complaints or problems with their gen III. I would hope it would far out weigh the negs. I sold my 06 Nismo 4x4 today and I'm ready to order a trd off road 4x4 d cab long bed, fp package.

That is partially correct. 6,800 is the max for a 6-banger 2WD access cab with an auto. The details are on page 24 of their brochure: www.toyota.com/content/ebrochure/2016/tacoma_ebrochure.pdf

The only off-road capable vehicle you can get today with a clutch pedal that has a reasonable expectation of reliability.
