New guy here. I have an issue that the dealer cant seem to figure out. Ever since adding a 3" toytec lift and wheels/tires (August 2015) the traction control will fire off when driving through a moderate speed (25+ mph) turn. It can be scary when the steering yanks the opposite direction and the abs kicks in on the wheel opposite the turn direction.

Anyone here have any idea what causes this?

I had a similar problem with mine even at completely stock. I do believe it is a Vehicle Stability Control issue (VSC). I heard of it here and Google helped me understand it. There are sensors which "think" based off many inputs and can be zeroed out at the dealership. Hope this helps with a direction to research.

how big of tires did you go.

The problem arises at what seems to be the 285/75R16 (or 285/70R17) tire size as indicated speed is now out of the flexible zone the traction control has. What i mean is, now you are reading almost 8% lower in speed (at the above tire size vs stock), so the vsc thinks you are going 8% slower, resulting it in using "normal" pitch, yaw, and acceleration values for that slower speed.

Problem is the actual pitch, yaw, and acceleration readings are for a higher speed and as such the vsc, goes, HOLD UP the vehicle is entering a state i dont like (ie a crash) and goes and does its thing.

There has been limited success with the zero point calibration. All that does is re-zero the sensors (IE steering angle, and center on the accelerometer) Nothing more. It does not change the tables as to which the vsc uses to determine what is normal and what is not.

That stated, a speedo healer to get your speed back to reading proper, would probably solve your issue.

It does have 285/70/17 tires. Seems strange as so many others use way bigger tires than that.

so re-calibrating did NOT fix the issue. Bummer

When I bought my 15 the dealer had way overinflated the tires which was causing my VSC to kick in around turns, I know its a long shot but check your tire inflation.

^ hmm interesting. I wonder what 265/70R17's you had. as there all small variances in diameter at any given tire size. My hankooks which are not the most beefe tires have not caused any issues but they are 265/75R16's. But i know Duratracs in the same 265/75R16's are about a half inch bigger in diameter.

tried this and it still does the same thing. Getting frustrated. Is there no way to re-calibrate for the larger tires?

You have to push and hold the button for 5 seconds while stopped for it to be " off " , if you just push the button VSC is still active above 30mph , plus pushing the button again or turning off the truck resets it

If you want to kill it completely do the ABS bypass switch or gank the ABS fuse

    Sorry to hi-jack.

I have the same issue after I put my 6" lift and 35s on, it would kick the TC on in a sweeping turn from time to time.

Now after I put a new rack and pinion on over the weekend its completely out of wack. Just going straight the TC is freaking out until it just shuts off and then I can drive.

Can only a dealer do this re-cal?

Gotcha, I printed those out and will bring with me.

So someone with Intel Tester or dealer has to do it.

I set an appointment with my local dealer today. Hoping it works!
