Greasing Entire Drive Shaft U-Joints (5 Zerks Total)

    I recently lubed up the slide yoke.

    I didn't remove the DS entirely, just the end piece that attaches to the diff yoke. Marked the u-joint and splined halves with a sharpie to make sure that it all went back in with the same orientation. Then I used a de-greaser to remove the old grease and lubed it with a grease that Ford makes (Motorcraft) that I heard about on youtube. It seemed to lessen the amount of 'axle-wrap' clunk I was getting.

    So it sounds like you did this to solve a specific problem (the clunk), rather than as part of regular maintenance?

    I'm trying to figure if anyone is making it a routine thing to drop the driveshaft in order to lube the slide yoke.

    Part of routine maintenance? No. Nobody is doing that as far as I know, only if it's a problem. There is a separate thread dedicated to lubing the slide yoke... Let me see if I can find it...

    Going to grease up my 2010 base 4x4 I was wondering how many zerks I am looking for exactly? At first glance I did in fact see a couple of them but I just want to know how many exactly. Or if anyone has a thread for this and could provide that I would greatly appreciate. Thank you

    Extremely helpful post that came in helpful today when I greased up my 02' prerunner after experiencing the deceleration squeal I'd researched on the net and at this site...no more squeal/squeaks...

    I'm glad I stumbled across this. I coulkd have sworn I read a long time ago that moly was to be used everywhere on the drive shafts which is what I've been using. I guess I'll be pumping the moly out of where it shouldn't be next weekend. Hopefully, it hasn't done any damage over the last 40,000 miles.

    I haven't seen anything about loosening something-- I know with my UCAs I need to loosen the bolt so it doesn't warp the bushing.... is there anything I need to do like that with the drive shaft?
