Diff, trasmission and transfer oil change

This is simple however I have these questions (I know, still )
A) Do I need to add LSD additive if I buy diff oil that says "LS" e.g Mobile-1 75W -90 -LS?
B) I have a manual trans: What oil do you recommend and what is the capacity?
C) This is the capacity data that I dug out and need help with:
-Front diff - 1.6 - Quarts

75W-90
- Rear Diff - ??
- Transfer case - 1.1 Quarts - what weight?
- Transmission - ?? ( some say, Redline 75-90 NS) - what capacity?

ok, it seems like I'm talking to myself. But there is what I found.
Transmission:

$30 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75W-90(some recommend Redline 75-90 NS but local pepboys don't carry them) - 2 Quarts - tighten both plugs to 27 ft lbs

 

Between the rear diff, front diff, and transfer case you'll need about 6 quarts. I just use 80-90 all around. I don't remember what the manuals use and how much. You don't need LSD additive because you don't have an LSD, unless you installed one.

 

I used Mobil 1 75-90 for the front and rear diff as well as transfer case. You have a pro with a locker in the rear so no LSD fluid required. Trans is something like 12-13qts but check the manual to be sure, there's two diy's on here, one is full drain and fill and one drain pan only and refill ~3qts.

 

I assume Mobile -1 synthetic? I have manual trans, the quantity should be around 2 quarts as per https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/manual-transmission-fluid-change.53530/

 

You're right I read manual and then just gave you info for an auto, my bad. But yes use synthetic for the riffs and transfer case.

 

I would not bother with transfer case unless you drive a hell of a lot in 4wd. I did mine at 50k and it looked perfectly clear. I will never change again.

 

Total oil required is ~8qts.

FWIW, I use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 all-around.

 

The 15 Manual calls for 75W-85 for the Front and Rear Diff.

 

I agree with you, I will change this time (1st time) to get synthetic in and then increase the interval for second.

 

Almost there. Hopefully one last question(regarding transmission): I went to Pepboys, they carry Mobile -1 but not the Redline 75w-90 NS thing that people here talk about. Instead, I bought Royal Purple - which just says "high performance manual trans fluid" This thing is expensive, any thoughts about this brand? It does not show the weight anywhere. Do you want me use Mobile-1 instead?

The only oil you should even consider in the manual transmission is Redline MT-90. NOTHING else. The issue is the synchros. I use it in the TC too. Front diff gets Redline 75-90 GL-5 gear oil, and rear diff gets Redline 75-110 GL-5 Gear oil ( I was using 75-140 until the 75-110 came out. I do not have limited slip,...ARB air lockers at both ends.

 

where do you buy Redline MT-90 from? I cannot find it at Pepboys or Orielly's

PS: I'm posting my gibberish talk here to prevent someone like me going through this again.

 

I got my Redline MT-90 on ebay. 2 quarts. It made a noticble difference in the way my six speed shifts. I'm quite happy with it.

 

Follow these guidelines:
-GL-4 75w90 for transmission
-GL-5 75w90 transfer case and diffs

Changed the drive-line fluids today (~27,xxx on the clock):
-transmission: Red Line MT90 75w90 (GL-4 is required)
-transfer-case: Mobil 1 75w90 (Gl-4 or GL-5 is required)
-rear differential: Mobil 1 75w90 (GL-5 is required)
-front differential: Mobil 1 75w90 (GL-5 is required)

Used Red Line MT90 75w90 for the transmission, then put the remainder of 3rd bottle into the tranfer-case and mixed it with the Mobil 1 75w90. In total 9 qts are required to do the full drive-line.

All-in-all, super easy job. Just had to buy 10mm hex socket and 24mm 6 point socket as those aren't typically included in most tools sets.

Typical sludge was on magnets and fluid was no dirtier than anticipated.

Not to hijack this thread but I have an 07' with Elocker, do I need a rear diff oil with an additive? intuitively I wouldn't think so...
