3rd Gen Bilstein 5100 now available

Thanks! where did you find the torque specs for bolts loosened and or removed. I want to be sure I have all the details lined-out before I dive in.

 

Looks good, you live in Suffolk? I would love to look at it closely, trying to decide what I am going to do with mine lift wise.

 

For torques I followed the below link. I set the u-bolts to 75 ft lbs.

The front suspension was really easy with a good floor jack. I did not even loosen the sway bar or remove it. Before you loosen the lower control arms be sure to mark their positions so you can get the alignment close enough to drive it to an alignment shop. I used the how to in the link below and did not use a spring compressor.

For the ICON AAL install I basically followed the below instructions from the suspension forum. Only minor differences were encountered. Biggest challenge was the stock leaf spring retainers overlapping with the ICON retainers. I had to remove one retainer bracket on each side due to interference, and because I chose to retain the overload I had to remove one retainer on each overload as well. I used an angle grinder to grind down the heavy duty rivet heads and then hammered/crow barred them off.

Question for ya'll...when lifting the rear of the truck w/AAL 1.5-2" or 2" block, should I get the Bilstein standard rear shocks (

$110 24-186728 5100 Series Shock Absorber

24-186728) or do I get the extended travel shocks? I am not sure how much of a lift the standard Bilstein shocks can support up to.

Does anyone know the part number for the Bilstein extended travel shocks?

 

Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road advised me that standard length rear shocks are fine for a 1.5-2" rear lift application. That's what i have ordered.

After settling is your truck level with the 888's and AAL? did you keep your factory overloads in? my 888's and Headstrong 3 leaf AAL are on their way, trying to keep a slight rake or level.

 

Did you get the 5100s for the 3rd or 2nd gen?

 

3rd gen 5100's. hoping for 1/2" to 1" rake after settling. factory rake on our 3rd gens is 1" which is a nice look to me.

truck won't be here for another month or two - had to order it.

 

I went to headstrong for 3rd gen 5100s, 887 springs, lean spacer and a 1" block kit for the back... 17" fuel savage wheels and 285 bfgs from discount tire....so far the ride is much better, the 5100s soak up holes and ruts much better than before... the only possible negative thing I can say is increased feedback in the steering wheel, without a doubt caused by the 285s... I'm pretty happy over all

any trouble with the alignment?

 

Once I found someone who would do the alignment, it went well, no issues at all... I haven't hit the highway yet, but I don't expect any issues

 

Looks great with the 285s any rubbing? Did you get a measurement on how much lift you got?

 

Could you advise of your updated mpg as well?
