i have a chirping noise while idling in neutral, and goes away when I push my clutch in. I know this can be a Bad throw out bearing, but is there any other things I should try before going straight to that? If not, how hard/ long would it take for me to change it myself?

    Thanks!

Truck only has 153,000 KM, and mostly highway driving. Seems early for a throw out bearing to go in my opinion.

Definitely the throw out bearing. It's notoriously common on these trucks. I've had two go bad, the most recent one is on my "new" clutch that I just got installed less than a year ago. Chirping started up again about a month ago. Pisses me off but unfortunately it just happens with the OEM Toyota clutch assembly...URD makes an upgrade that supposedly works well.

Check the tension on alternator belt but it's probably going to be the throw out bearing.

For what it's worth, I've read that you can ride around with a chirping throwout bearing and 9/10 it won't cause any major issues other than sounding annoying as hell. But there's always the possibility that it could fail completely and that can be real bad news...can potentially punch a hole through your bell housing or damage your flywheel.

Notoriously common? Isn't it expensive to fix? This sounds like something that should be a recall! I looked into the urd bearing, and people say it is a waste. Didn't hold up any longer.

I agree, it should be/should've been a recall...but to my knowledge there isn't one. Only thing I know for sure is that I have had two start chirping on me on two different clutch assemblies and there are a lot of threads on here from people experiencing the same. Only real drawback to owning a manual trans Tacoma, sad to say. I'm hoping mine lasts the lifespan of this clutch because this last clutch job cost me an arm and a leg.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain there is a TSB for the tob.

Anyway, from what you describe, my money is on the tob. Crappy design.

You're right, there is a TSB, but from what I've heard on here it's not a permanent fix.

Recalls are only for safety issues.

A Technical Service Bulletin alerts the technician thats working on your truck that there is a common problem associated with your complaint .
In your case , The clutch release bearing is noisy . Not a safety issue , but annoying for anyone who drives the truck .
Until someone comes out with a " low clearance " release bearing for the Tacoma like general motors did to the Camero who also use the identical transmission , you are basically screwed .

Every day, I want to trade my truck in more and more. Lately I have been fixing one thing, and something else is on it's way out

If you want to cheap out , there is a guy on here who swears he has the fix to the problem even though I totally disagree with him . Although he has no clue how a clutch works , he says he has the fix by making bearing spin all the time . Pre loading the bearing and making it spin all the time will make the noise go away
You could always try this or rest your foot on the clutch pedal
