Fan Clutch & Transmission Cooler Add-on

    ok i installed my cooler today and i have a question about in/out of the cooler.

    i installed my cooler in ther vertical position with both barbs pointing to the passenger side.

    running the cooler after the OEM radiator cooler.

    question is do i run the transmission from the oem cooler to the top of the trucool cooler then out the bottom and back to the transmission or run from the oem cooler to the bottom of the trucool cooler then out of the top and back to the transmission.

    from what ive read everyone seems to go into the top side and out the bottom side back to the transmission, but how does the air get "purged" out of the aftermarket trucool cooler? it seems that air can get trapped in the top side of the cooler like this.

    i'ver read 1 post where someone ran from the bottom to the top and i though it was because he was wanting to push the fluid through the cooler to also push any air trapped in the cooler after install.

    are there any procedures for bleeding the aftermarket cooler?

    I installed mine just like you with the barbs facing the passenger side. I ran the fluid to the top fitting and then out the bottom fitting. I later found out that B&M recommends in a sideways mounting that you have the fluid enter the bottom fitting and out the top fitting to facilitate air removal. But, I then read on the TruCool website in the Frequently Asked Questions and they said you can mount the cooler anyway you want, even upside down (which B&M absolutely says not to do) and makes no mention which fitting should be the inlet and which should be the outlet. http://www.trucool.com/frequently-asked-questions

    Another thing to think about is the fluid is under positive pressure from the trans pump and that will push air out. If any air is getting trapped, I would guess it's very minimal and will barely affect the efficiency of the cooler.

    However, with all that said, it's probably best to play it safe and have the inlet be the bottom fitting and the outlet be the top fitting in a sideways mounting application.

    Any thoughts on this location for off-roading?

    I will be towing boats and jet skis as well as wheeling. More worried about getting filled with mud/dirt wash.

    Its a good spot but worried about how much of radiator I cover up. When running off road truck takes a ton of fine mud and cakes everything. If going slow on trails I'd be worried about lack of cooling to radiator.....

    it doesnt show a tow package but i bought the truck with the factory hitch on it. but have orange fan clutch....? and no transmission cooler.. i dont think there was ever a complete tow package offered by toyota for first gens. i think they just bolted on a hitch...?? and possibly a different color fan clutch?IMG_0715.jpg

    I have a transmission cooler & green fan clutch. A stock tow hitch was on my stock bumper but now I have a rear TG bumper.

    Yes. It's the small one in front of the main radiator that I thought all automatics had.
