Just installed my front locker thanks to ecgs, shipped my old gears back yesterday. They offer a relatively inexpensive install

I think I paid $1000 which included the clamshell core, rebuilt clamshell with new gears, and the labor to machine and install. It's really not that bad of a price when you think gears are $200 and the master install kit is another $250.

Yeah for new gears and the front harrop install it ran me about $1400 all prebuilt third n clamshell...cant beat it! A local shop wanted $2500 to do it plus $500 for the locker install...that woulda put me at $4200 ish with the purchase of the locker...$2600 and diy or $3000 with a 400$ instal of the third and clamshell...hmmm haha

Does that inclued the harrop locker? @1400 the harrop cost almost that much already? I got a quote from ecgs and its extra 100 to get harrop install, so assembly 3rd 600+1314(locker)+100(extra install for machine)

So the gears were 1300 ish +100 install of locker plus the 1200 ish locker..not counting the core charges as they are refunded as soon as you return them...all together I paid about 2600 ish for gears and locker...then you can instal yourself or find someone to do it for you...best i could find was 400$ in san diego...i should have bought an impact wrench...n saved an extra $200

The first gen 4 banger standard cabs also have the 8.4" Which I think is ass backwards to put the 8" on the TRD models. I was about to do the whole 8" TRD axel swap before I saw these lockers. Im not interested in ARB or lunchbox type lockers. I want electric and an on/off switch to save wear and tear when not necessary.

Thanks for clearing up the prices.

The 8.4" name is nothing but somebody's measuring mistake that somehow stuck and took off, possibly to imply the extra strength of the trussed 2pinion carrier. Both the TRD off-road and all other 6 lug diffs have the same size 8" crown gear and use the same axle shafts...

That said, I'm stoked there finally is an aftermarket elocker for these diffs. The new 2016+ off-road model also uses an improved electro magnetic locker, no actuator.
Did you install it yourself? I assume it's similar to ARB install where you swap your crown gear on a new carrier and drill the housing to run he wires thru?

That's right, I think my front install was $1300 and I got $300 core charge back when I sent my front diff back.

This elocker will fit the 2nd gens too. The 8.4" open diff rear was identical inside between the 1st and 2nd gens. And all links should be in the beginning of the thread

Negative! Only the front one I see linked and I have absolutely zero interest in a front locker
