103k miles... time for a Tune-Up?

I am nearly at the 103,000 mile mark, and I was wondering just how beneficial a Tune-Up would be?

Any info would be appreciated. I bought it 2nd hand with ~80K miles on it... not really sure what was done as far as maintenance is concerned, but the truck runs great. Just wondering if I would see any sort of positive outcome from getting a tune-up.

older trucks i.e. first gens plugs typically should be done at 50k miles. The second gens had longer life plugs that are supposed to 100k max. But keep in mind that a plug that is at 80k miles is four fifths worn. I would not do that. The plugs are much more efficient when the gap is in spec. Not all worn down with a much bigger gap. I swap mine at 50k regardless of any other reason than milage. All the parts on my truck are new and so are all the fluids. My truck burns zero oil and leaks nothing! I only use castrol edge extended performance 15,000 mile oil. The truck runs amazing go toyota

 

Those plugs don't get any easier to get out with age, for that reason alone I would change them. I changed mine at 90,000 miles ( bought it with 88,000 miles.) The gaps were between .052 and.063 instead of .041-043 . You will know if the plugs have been changed, the factory puts densos on one side and NGKs on the other.

 

The 4.0 has 30,000 mile plugs, but they do last longer. I wouldn't go more than 50k, but that's just me. I just changed mine at 29k.

 

I waited until 50,000 miles to change plugs this last time instead of my usual 30,000... the plugs looked fine when I pulled them out.

OP, get the plugs changed at least. Should be done every 30ishK miles., I'd check air filter, oil/oil filter etc as well

 

I'd do the plugs and fluids (oil, diffs and transfer case at least) just for piece of mind since you don't know the maintenance history. It's not very hard and there is a good how-to on TW somewhere if you need help.

Definitely change the plugs as mentioned above, mainly so they don't seize up in there. Also, clean the pcv valve. Not many people do this but it makes a surprisingly good difference when done.

 

I just changed mine at 60k on my 09, book says every 30k

It took me like and hour if I remember right... and I'm usually slow, meticulous and taking beer breaks

 

While you have it torn apart this far, might as well clean the mas air flow sensor and the throttle body. Might be a few ponies hiding there.

 

I would also replace the air in the tires with nitrogen. It will help your mpg.

 

I changed my plugs at 60k, I'm now at 108k and not changing until I notice starting or gas mileage issues. I would flush my tranny oil and change serpentine belt.

 

My 2014 is at 86K miles and on the original plugs. Every time I change the oil I keep telling myself I'm going to change the plugs too. Then I get lazy and don't. Oddly enough I have been getting much better fuel mileage in the last 10K than it ever did so who knows if my lazy ass is going to change them.

 

I has been my understanding that the 30k interval for the 4.0 was for mpg #s, though I'm not sure how that would apply after the truck leaves the lot. So not sure. Pretty confident my 07, (same engine as my '15), owners manual didn't call for so frequent a spark plug swap. I plan to go to 50-60k at least. Once again not certain of any of this.

 

I just changed my plugs at 30k. Immediately noticed a difference in how the motor runs and sounds at low RPM.

 

Air is already 78% nitrogen. Even if you did air up your tires with 100% nitrogen, you would only gain 0.000001 better MPG. It's really just snake oil so you pay to fill up your tires. It's especially a waste when you off-road and need to air down.

 

OK... I got quite a list going now. This should be fun!

 

I only gap my plugs, still going on orig plugs at 172k
