I’ll try to give as much detail as possible but I’m new-ish to the forum so let me know if I missed anything. I’m also new to Toyota having just come over from the dark (Jeep) side.

So here’s the story: tonight I installed a Gentrex compass/temp mirror (not from a forum seller, I bought a used Gentrex 261 off eBay for cheap). Installation was easy enough and went fine. I ran the temp gage wires through the grommet by the e brake pedal (created a new hole as far from the factory wires as possible) and for power I spliced into the factory 3 wire plug behind the overhead sunglasses storage console using the green and tan wires (red stayed unused). I ran the leads for the temp sensor up through the panel next to the door and behind the grab handle then under the headliner. Basically I followed this method:

Turn the truck on and mirror works as it should. As I walk away I notice the key fob doesn’t lock the truck. Power locks work, just not the fob. I tried recalibrating it and no luck. I decided to drive around to calibrate the compass and I notice that both the traction control and air bag lights are illuminated as I drive. The center dash passenger airbag/seatbelt light is also illuminated.

I read through this thread as the issues sounded similar: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...airbag-light-emergency-brake-light-on.320938/

I unhooked the negative cable from the battery and pulled every fuse in the in-cab panel to check it. None were blown. Replaced negative cable after 30 mins and still the same issue.

I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue and if so, what was your fix? I’m very comfortable with 12v wiring but I’m also almost sure I caused this somehow during the install.

Did you use a meter to check the fuses or did you just eyeball them. If you just eyeballed them you still may have a blown fuse, it isn't always obvious to the naked eye.

Just eyeballed them. I’ll try again with a meter after work. Thanks for the idea.

It was a blown 7.5 amp fuse in the main under hood fuse box exactly as described in the above post. Everything works fine now. Here’s a pic of me pointing at the failed fuse, hopefully this helps someone out in the future:

Always use a meter it doesn't lie. The eyes are not 100%.

I know this is a dead thread, but I just wanted to post here and express my gratitude.

I just did a Gentex mirror install this evening. I didn't have a harness so I had to hardwire everything in. The install went smoothly and everything was functioning. I went for a drive to test my placement of the temperature sensor and I noticed that my airbag lights and a track light were all on. My key fob also stopped working to lock and unlock the doors. Instead of combing through all of my wiring and double checking everything, I did a quick search on the forum and found this thread. Just like the OP, I had a blown fuse. What could have taken me hours to figure out only took me a matter of minutes.
What a great place Tacomaworld is!

Thank you Justbrian (OP). Your picture has been very useful. I save a lot of time and a visit to the mechanic ($). My fuse was OK just the contact was missing in some occasions. This is why I did not suspect the fuse as the first cause, but your picture was so evident I decided to try and Bingo.

Thank you to you and also to Tacoma World. Second time I did a diagnostic by myself with the help of this site users.
