Thanks for the great photos and details. I am getting ready to change the oil and to tackle lubrication of propeller shaft and all of this will help.

A couple of questions: My 2006 Scheduled Maintence guide does not mention changing the Manual or transger case oils at any interval. I have looked through it twice. Only to inspect them. The only exception is if you are towing or off road. ANy recommendation if I have not been doing either as in, do i still need to change them and how often. It seems pretty easy to do.

Thanks 4 the heads up. A lot of people don't have metric sockets that go to 24mm.

What spec gear oil is recommended? Ie. SF is the lettered grade for some motor oil.
    Good info and pics!

BTW another option is a suck gun. Looks like a grease gun without the pump handle. It has a tube in one end and a handle at the other. All metal, $25 or so.

All these years of DIY and now I find out I could have been using a suck gun. Who knew ?:rolleyes: I'm putting a suck gun on the very top of my list of things to save up for. Do they come in sizes ? I wish I could use a large but I'll probably wind up with a small. Oh well. Thanks for the heads up.

I called a reputable dealership... Diffs take 75w-90 GL-5, xfer case and manual trans take 75w-90 GL-4 or GL-5. The GL-5 has more shear resistant additives than the GL-4.
One size fits all on the suck gun. You can put a longer hose on the end as well as other attachments;) to suit your needs. Keep in mind, it is a manual suck gun. You will have to do some work to make it happen, lol.

Great write up, Last night I did the rear diff, trans, and transfer case. I sheared 2 bolts getting the front plates off, and was going to drain the front diff, but the drain plug won't budge....even torched it a bit, but no luck. Surprising that it's jammed...well, off I go to grab some PB blaster and soak the sucker.

It's new......mods starting soon. Removed step bars so far. lol
just a heads up for everyone since it was not mentioned in the past 6 page write up, any gear oil with a hypoid additive and gl-5 is NOT good for your manual trans.the hypoid additive will damage the brass synchros in our 5 speed manulas after awhile, and is commonly too slick in the friction coefficient side of things for our trans to operate properly....redline is the way to go here as it is specifically made for manual trans and is safe for the synchros etc....and no im not a redline dealer or employee just speaking from cold hard facts ive researched......ever have problems in frist or reverse or still have some "shift crunch" its because of th eoil your running
