I’m deciding whether to go with the LCE short shifter for my 2.4l 5 lugger or the URD. I’ve read things people saying that the LCE has a rattle because it’s a solid piece, but the only one I’ve found is the bolt on, similar to the URD, and it includes a shifter seat, bushing, and is less expensive than the URD. The LCE I’ve read also has good reviews so I’m just wondering if anyone else has something to add? Don’t wanna spend $100 if it won’t be worth it.

I have the URD kit on my 2.7 3rz. I really like it a lot. It definitely shortened up the throw a very noticeable amount. It's probably even shorter than the throw on my wife's Integra. I also installed a new shifter bushing at the same time to help keep it nice and tight.

So you think I should go with URD?

I can't speak for the LCE kit, but they look like they're pretty similar in design. It's been a year since I ordered it so I don't remember all the info I looked up on them. It's like there was something specific that I read about the URD one that was the reason why I chose it.

The URD kit was easy to install, shifts perfectly, and the throw in insanely short. I remember reading in some forums the LCE kit can be loud?? i dont remember if it was a pop or something but that was what swayed me toward URD. That and the entire kit is metal, no plastic parts.

The URD doesn’t come with any shifter seats or bushings, just the SS, right?

I have an LCE kit. I love it as its not too stiff like a race car. Its short to where you wish the factory put it on when they made your truck. It's nice not to have to reach in the glove box for 5th.

It came with everything you need gaskets, bushings, etc.

    2 Problems encountered.

    1) The plate is so tall that it is pretty much touching the bottom of the truck by the hole. A bit difficult to install tight without loosening the trans mount. (doable but can leak).
    2) The 3 keepers that hold it in place are allen head and 1 can strip and 2 can potentially back out and fall into the trans if the directions aren't followed to a T.
I just welded the thing on instead of using those and it's smooth as silk. I had mine starting to come loose so I didn't feel like dealing with it. (I may not have 100% followed directions tho =P)

Anything I should keep in mind during the install?

Keep in mind... This install is really easy. Only think you gotta make sure to do is spread the gasket sealer generously but not too much it'll squeeze way past the shifter and fall into the transmission. Also while the shifter is off you may aswell do a fluid change, it's way easier than crawling under your truck and using a pump.

Noted that, I’ve read some reviews on redlines MT-90 transmission oil helping with notchy and rough shifting, any recommendations?

i used mobil 1 in my diff and transmission just cuz it was cheap and i already enough to fill up half the tranny at my house. I'll be buying amsoil and doing another fluid change along with a diff breather and transmission breather mod in the future. Amsoil is hands down the best brand for engine and gear oil.

Okay awesome. What do diff and tranny breathers do? I’ve seen some on the actual motor and I never figured out what they’re used for

exactly what it sounds like, lets air in and out of the mechanisms. its mostly good for water crossings or just to put it in a place where less dust and dirt will be sucked into it

Hey guys - I put the URD SS today using the Marlin Crawler seat and factory bushing. I could not get the steel cap (that you turn counter clockwise to get off and clockwise to get back on) that houses the spring to go back on with the Marlin Crawler seat installed. I had to take it out and use the old seat and it worked fine. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I'd like to use the MC seat...

Also, it seems unreasonably hard to get the transmission into reverse - it goes, but it takes a LOT of effort. Not sure my wife could do it...

    Any ideas?

Make sure you get this installed correctly. The goober that installed the one on my truck before I bought it had the shifter sticking too far in the transmission and there was metal on metal contact that was making the trans shift poorly. Luckily it shifts fine without the ss on it.

can you be more specific on how you fixed it? i assumed the top hat that gets seated in would just provide the proper clearance.

I bought another transmission and had the shifter from that one out one night while I was investigating the two transmissions next to each other. I swapped the new shifter over for a test before I figured out what it was. I haven't take apart the short shifter yet. I'm pretty sure I'll find out what he did wrong when I have time to dissect it though. Made me laugh. I don't know how he thought it was "better" than stock lol
