When I was shopping around i was planning on getting a "324-01 - Tuffy Tacoma Security Console Insert". Seemed like the best value with out losing to much space in the already small console. It cost about 100 less than most of the other console safes.

Just realize that the Tuffy is just a metal cover, which is why it is cheaper.

The Console Vault or LockerDown are fully enclosed metal cases.

Well I looked at this way. It's mainly to protect against a smash and grab. If they are able to get into a tuffy they can just as easily pull the console vault out and take it with them since they bolt on essentially the same.

When I thought of it that way I rather have just saved a few bucks. Just my 2 cents.

Plus if I'm not mistaken the tuffy doesn't use as much space in the console.

Installed a Locker Down a few months ago. I am very happy with how it's worked so far.

Pleased with this setup. Currently using the cable, but have considered pulling the seat and adding a mounting plate under the seat rails and bolting the box down. I agree that most options are smash-and-grab prevention and this provides moderated deterrence, also reduces the possibility of someone waiting to assault me with my own weapon. Most likely they would just take the box and run, crack it open later. Accessibility while driving is not a concern of mine. It is either on my person or goes in the box when I have to leave it behind for concerts, events, etc.

You can get the Lockerdown set up with keyed locks as well as two different types of keys. I bought one for my Tacoma and one for the wife's 4Runner. It will stop the smash and grap boys. Someone would have to tear the whole console out to get it. Not to say that couldn't happen but not likely to happen with hit'em quick thieves. The box is made out of steel and its very strong.

I know its a stretch, but anyone know of the compartments under the rear seats being used/modified for transport/security. I know a long gun might be a stretch but might be suitable for a pistol/ammo.

I have a Bulldog personal safe with cable and combination lock. It just fits under my front seat, and the cable goes around one of the seat brackets. It is to deter smash-and-grab thefts. Just in case it does not, I keep one of my relatively-cheaper Taurus revolvers in it, as opposed to one of my more expensive handguns.

Do you remove your lid on the center console? I don't see it in your pictures.

What are you using for a divider? Is that just a piece of plexiglass?

I had the Salex console organizer before I got the safe. I just trimmed one of the pieces to fit.

I just installed the Locker Down console safe - very happy w/ the results.

FYI to those that are looking into it and don't want to lose their 12v. I smashed in the 'Amazon basics' lightning cable I was using and it did work but was very snug and probably would have warn down or damaged the cable over time. This is fit through the access hole in the factory console lid and then under the console safe and then out through the access hole in the safe that's precut for the 12v.

    I ordered this:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LL0IV0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2 pack of flat lightning cables (they also have USB-C and Micro versions). Worked perfectly and they are a little silicone type so you can actually slide them around through the access hole a bit as well, I fit them both in there and plugged them into a 2 USB 12v plug. I didn't realize until they arrived that this pack is 1m and 1.5m (I assumed 2 1m) length, but that works out better for the passenger plug anyway. Obviously if you already have the Locker Down safe you will need to pull it out to slide these in.

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anybody was on the fence but didn't want to lose access to the 12v for charge cables.

    I couldn't be happier.

I love my 2nd Gen Locker Down as well and drool over the long gun safe.

You should consider removing the Locker Down tag though.

Been debating about getting one or not. Problem I have with it is the console is so damn small. Also won’t be able to use my tray anymore if I go this route. Only real time I want to keep my pistol in the truck is places I can’t carry. Mostly work, but maybe it’s more beneficial to just carry it in and keep it in my work locker discretely.
