I’ve been on the forums for my older Tacoma previous, now back but with a problem. My new 2018 SR5 V6 automatic has been stalling. I’ve read older 2016/2017 camshaft issues and recalls but dealer ensures me this isn’t that problem. Less than 600 miles and truck has stalled now 10+ times. Sometimes while giving gas (hard or easy) and sometimes while idling. It shows orange triangle light on dash and has to be restarted. It has been intermittent and dealer can’t reproduce. It doesn’t show up on their computer diagnostics. My son told me that these cars have a break in period while engine ECU and transmission learn but why is this happening. Anyone else have this or have ideas? This has been dangerous- stalling once while pulling out and once in an intersection. Any help would be much appreciated- currently trying to get a video of this for dealer. Thanks, Russ Sutton

id be putting that truck in the dealers parking lot and telling them not to return it to you until its fixed or you want them to buy it back and give you another vehicle. Check your Lemon laws in your state.

The vehicles do have a "learning" period where it learns your driving habits etc but stalling is definitely not part of that .

Welcome to the forum. One word... find another dealer! Well that’s three words but they are stupid and your truck has a problem that could get you hurt or worse.

Mine's a '17, but mine stalled once (at around 4k miles). Backing up a driveway, the engine stalls, high trans fluid temp warning, low fluid warning, pops up. Restarted, took it to a dealer, who confirmed the engine stalled, but no CEL, so they couldn't do anything. Hasn't been an issue since. I'd be curious what they find in yours, as it may shed some light on what's going on with mine. Good luck and please post back.

That scenario doesn't sound out of the norm. Reverse gear is pretty weak and it might have just missed enough to shut off. All those light come on when key in ON position. I wouldn't worry about it. Give it more of running start in the future.

Good to know about the warning lights. But if that's the explanation, that's not acceptable. I've backed up steeper driveways in an econobox Honda with no issues. Stalling while driving an Off Road truck up a Driveway??! Embarrassing.

Was the truck up to temp or cold?

Mine stalls..... Cause MT :anonymous:. On a serious note, CPS sensor? as other have said dealer, not safe if the truck is randomly stalling.

As much issues that I had in my Tacoma, it never stalled. Not normal at all. Start a case with corporate.

This doesn’t sound like Drive Start Control/TSS kicking in. I’ve had it happen to me twice. It did not stall, but rather cut power for a few seconds, then the engine came back to life. In both instances (once merging into traffic and a u turn that ended up near a telephone pole) I was using my left foot for the brakes, while giving the Taco gas with my right foot. ALSD cancels these features if you ever have to put both feet on the pedals on an automatic. With that said, I’d go to another dealer and call corporate, because the engine stalling during idle squashes the DSC/TSS reasoning.

    ^^^^^ This.

I read your post and my first thought was “Stalling? What the hell is he talking about?”
I have had my SR5 v6 for 3.5K so far and nothing remotely like a stalling experience.

Hey Russ, what state do you live in that the dealer is letting it go? Dont worry about getting a video- let them do it. The dealer shouldn’t be letting you drive that truck until it is fixed, tested and the issue is deemed resolved, its simply not safe(.)

Definitely call corporate and tell them it stalls in intersections and that its already been a traffic hazard and that the dealer isn’t resolving the problem. You should be driving a loaner or they should take it back.

Don’t keep testing it for them, and dang, stay away from railroad tracks!
