Flooded Truck

    Good morning everyone, yesterday I celebrated Earth Day a little too hard and subsequently got my truck stuck in some deep just water above the tires. It took afternoon before it was pulled out but I was able to drive it home with all sorts of engine and sensor lights.

    I want to do as much as I can within reason to prevent major damage so here's a list of things that I want to get done before driving it regularly again:
    Change Engine oil
    Transmission and transfer case fluid flush
    Repack Wheel bearings
    Change differential grease
    Spray all of underside (WD40 or something)
    Remove carpet

    Check/Reset computer code errors and fix whatever is causing trouble.

    Does anyone have any other advice on what to look out for?

    Not sure you can repack the wheel bearings on these but everything else sounds right

    Fresh water or salt water? Engine should be ok. After you change all of the fluids, re-grease all fittings, remove carpeting for several days, dry and air it out, mechanically it should be ok.

    My 2010 Rubicon was flooded in Hurricane Sandy and that is what I did. Ran fine after. Saltwater in mine got in-between body panels/welds and caused rust issues after about 6 months. Fresh water would be less of a concern IMHO

    I would use a leaf blower on the interior and compressed air to hit all electrical connections that got wet.

    Does your insurance cover flooding, not storm related?

    I've had nothing but good luck with those wheel bearing replacements, although I'm not sure if there are any differences between 2nd and 3rd gen wheel bearings

    Eh. He's probably fine if it wasn't salt water. Let it dry out. Spray out all the electrical connections you can with some contact cleaner or electrical cleaner. You will be fine

    Use these on the inside. My sisters Camry got flooded during school and she couldn't get it out. (New Orleans doesn't drain well) We put one on each front seat, 2 on the rear seat, one in the front foot wells, and on the floor in the back. Put your truck in a dry place with these in your truck. Don't open it for ~24 hours and let it sit. Then check on it, doing this stopped us from having to rip out the carpet and seats.


    Thats what we did for the inside, Id do everything else you listed for the motor/ drivetrain.

    I think he’s gonna be chasing gremlins in that truck for the foreseeable future... be better to call the insurance company tell them he fucked up...they will pay for stupidity as long as it wasn’t intentional. Theses trucks are not designed for water above the axle.

    Sorry for your issue, terrible thing to happen.

    I hope uou disconnected the battery until its dried out. Methanol (rubbing alcohol) creates a flamable vapor so you have to be careful with it, but when used on fabric and other water soaked stuff it helps cause the water to dry out faster. Dont use on clear plastic as it turns milky. This is a good way to dry out electronics, too (with the battery disconnected!!!)

    I would also invest in a very large bucket of silca gel and put it in the cab with the windows closed after you fan-dry it for a few days, or go rent a dehydration unit from a tool shop. You are going to have a mold problem starting very soon if you cant get all that water out.

    Where I live anything at the floor board in standing water for any period of time the insurance will automatically write off.

    It wasn't a timed speed competition, so insurance should cover it...sometimes your wallet has to suffer for being stupid.

    Be careful with whatever you spray underneath, don't want to spray stuff in bushings and on boots that will dry them out and rot or make them squeaky.

    I'd suggest checking your air filter and throttle body if you got time
