The transmission works exactly how it was designed to work! Toyota isn't going to fix what isn't broke and, based on sales numbers, there's a ton of people that feel the same.

I, for one, HATED how the automatic drove and I didn't need an extended test drive to realize it wasn't for me. So I bought a stick. It's not like there's no other option.

I have 47,000 miles on my truck and all of the downloads updated, it does need some polishing on the drive train interaction, but it's still a great truck.

I mean it should not be a argument, everyone is entitled to their opinions! As I said before glad you are happy the way your truck performs, doesn't mean it's right or great for everyone else. I'm not going to classify you or hate you for liking something I don't. I would have bought a tundra if I really knew it was this bad or even another brand truck like a Colorado, I was a loyal Toyota customer and wasn't schooled enough and bought this figuring it would fit the bill like my 2013 gen 2. All I can figure is they had to have been looking at a hybrid truck using a car motor and transmission. I wish I could trade it in but my dealership is offering me between 32-34000 when 4 months ago I paid 42000? I'll have to stick it out and hopefully it will have some resale value? My gen 2 cost me 8000$ and I had it 5 years and had 86000 miles on it when I traded it. Good luck everyone, hopefully a fix and everybody will love them again including the ones who don't have issues!

Definitely not my first truck, not my first rodeo. Wrong in that assumption.

Should have paid attention on the test drive, bud.

The “problematic discussion” you refer to, is basically a bunch of guys that did not do their due diligence prior to purchase of a vehicle, complaining and blaming the manufacturer for their short comings.

I am very happy with my truck. You know why? Because I researched the truck and paid attention on my test drive.

I actually passed on a different tacoma due to the way it felt when braking (I know, what a concept!).

Sounds to me like you needed to get a different truck, instead of making a bad purchase and then proceed to cry to the world on how “Toyota messed up”, because they didnt make it to your standard.

    Good luck, man.

Coming to a forum to complain about your purchase decision and put blame on the manufacturer makes an individual a complainer.

    Transmission is plenty ok.

    Not “everyone” is complaining. Lol.

If “everyone” jumps off a bridge, do you???

Correct, this is just a discussion. No sweat off my back. I just find that small group of guys that come here to complain, very entertaining.

Applying this logic to a transmission that's already had a TSB to address shifting issues just doesn't work. I also don't think it's fair to believe that everyone will experience the nuances of the transmission on a single test drive.

    See above. Also,

"New generation" of people. Irony: You've been here a whole five months. Memes and condescension aren't a productive way to contribute to the topic at hand. We understand that you're happy with your truck, but clearly a large number of people aren't. Consumers have a right to be critical of a product they've purchased.

Yes everyone must jump! lol opinions are like a$$h.les everyone has one. Not everyone hates them not everyone loves them some don't care! I guess there's people that only think there opinions matter. I think the forum is open, and to even discuss how great they are including any shortcomings. I guess you love to try to get people going for not feeling the way you do. But it's a open discussion forum and I haven't bashed you for your opinions so please don't bash mine or others if you don't agree. Test driving doesn't always show shortcomings or potential issues. So we can't always rely on them, and can't always go by what we read on a forum for information. Sometimes we have to just take the information we have and use our best judgment. I am not bashing Toyota. Always been a huge fan and happy customer. But without letting them know what we think they can't address future models properly and we'll I feel they need to make a change, as well as my dealership agrees. They know people are bringing it to their attention. This forum is limited to its members, how many 3rd generation trucks are out there? So unless every Tacoma owner was on here and replied we'll never know? And corporate will never reveal how many have asked to have this issue addressed? So God bless you and your Tacoma and your opinions! Just don't be a hater for others opinions.

Nothing to fix. On the other hand, Im always down for free / warrantied extra low end and improved shifting.

    Exactly.

No they are not. Lol. “Everyone” doesnt agree with your rhetoric.

When “keeping it real” goes wrong.

Fyi. Time spent as a member of a forum is only indivative of ..... Time spent as a member of a said forum! Nothing else.

Consumers have the right to be thankful that awesome products such as this truck are made, so that they can turn around and act ungrateful towards the company that made it happen for them.

Any product can always be improved. Tacomas, Raptors, Z06s, Vipers, Aventadors, etc.

There is a big difference between disliking something (as many of you express) and actually experiencing failures / quality issues.

Not liking the way the truck drives / shifts / feels is just an opinion. Very different to the truck leaving you stranded or malfunctioning.

Should have done more research or paid more attention.

    “All these people” means nothing.

What about the thousands of other car guys (mustang, camaros, corvettes, vipers, AMGs, F150s, Porsche, Cummings, etc. that pay aftermarket tuners to tune their vehicles? I guess they are all also “fixing” their vehicles...

I dont need to talk to anyone to know that my truck drives as intended, feels great and is everything I needed it to be.

Would I like more power/torque? Yes.

    Would I prefer a V8? Hell yes.

Would I like a front locker? Yes.

Would I like more comfortable seats? Yes.

Would I like a bit more leg room for my rear passengers? Yes.

    And the list goes on!

But you wont find me here talking about how “Toyota screwed up” simply because I found areas where the truck could be better for me, after I signed the contract.

And you have a 2.7? What makes you qualified to scrutinize the 3.5 engine with this tranny combo. You have a different engine. This thread clearly is about the

You're still a new generation Tacoma owner and a new generation tacoworld member. You're the one who introduced new generation into any of this.

The only party that needs to be grateful in the relationship between Toyota and it's customers is Toyota. I don't understand your belief that any of us should spend $30k with Toyota and be grateful they gave us a truck in return. They are the ones profiting in the relationship. Without us they don't exist. Without them we drive a Ford/Chevy/Nissan etc etc etc etc.

Opinion. Exactly. This very thread is started by someone expressing their opinion and for whatever reason you feel the need to impose your opinion that his is wrong with a supporting casts of memes and emojis. It's not productive. We understand you like your truck but for whatever reason your unsolicited need to defend it against another posters experience with their own truck is tired.

You are insane if you think that you can plug the same transmission with a different engine and it will preform the same way.

    Yeah.
It settles in over time. Did some trail runs this weekend, steep grades both up and down on unpaved roads and paved highway to get there. Used S mode on steep and tight stuff, D on slow (lightly) technical stuff. The transmission is fine, just different. Engine is fine, just different. Everything worked great. Just different. Deep breaths.
