It is the same software / update. It is just that the TSBs are worded for different problems. Surge for one, high altitude driving for the other. As was said in the OP, the software is the same.

Thanks OP for starting this thread. It wasn't until I started reading this thread from the beginning that I realized my 17 was not supposed have such crappy low power when entering onto the highway or general cruising between 40-60 (lol). So, I called my dealer this morning and when I told the service person on the phone that "I believed this was a dangerous problem that needed to be looked at", they got me in by 1PM. The service tech actually wanted to start by checking my tranny fluid and I was really happy with that since these are sealed units. Fluid level was fine.
They proceeded to complete the TSB and 2 hours later I'm out the door. The drive home from the dealer was a mix of highway and country roads. I can definitely notice the difference in starting out and accelerating up to highway speed. I'm going to be watching the mileage so I won't comment on the fuel economy until I have to refuel soon. Thanks again guys for all your input. Great forum TW.

Didn't notice any difference in shifting or power with the TSB done, granted I wasn't having problems to begin with. I will say it seems to hold 5th long instead of going 4th to 6th. Last tank was 1mpg more than usual.

That is the place I got my TSB done. I've been using this place for more than 10 years and have mixed feelings, but they are way better than others.

Got the -18 update installed 10 days ago. I did a road trip, left Ky. , drove to Deadwood/Sundance , down through Wy. into Colorado.. Then back to Ky. 3500 miles and the shifting upward was great. Now if I brake hard to slow down, then gas to get going it will rev up and then a thud when the transmission engages. Spent a couple days in Sundance.

So i bought an 18 dclb off road in feb and my father liked it so much he bought an 18 sr5. So we both went to dealership for tsb today. They gave him the tsb 62 and me the tsb 58 for the same problem. My app was at 2 and his was at 3. Weird.

Had mine done yesterday along with the radio update (radio was freezing up constantly). So far it seems to be much better than before. When I walked in the service managers office and told him it was stumbling at high altitude, he said “ yea, that’s the pre collision system doing that”. I’m certain the look I gave him was priceless. I proceeded to tell him that there was a TSB out for it. Once he looked, he agreed to reflash it and the radio as well. Point being, make sure you have the info with you in case they try to feed you a line of bs.

They told me there was nothing under transmission and told me there wsa no such TSB. I stressed I knew there was and it was ECU not transmission. hate arguing with people. Once I said ECU he said "oh there it is" and then gave me a hard time when I checked in my dads truck.

Nothing really. It sucks, but you can either wait out an official MT release or do the update on your own. Everything you need is in the MT thread except for a Windows computer and the Tactrix cable:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/

Alternately, someone in your area might be able to help a fellow TW'er out?

Why are you asking a salesman about a tsb? Kind of like asking your dentist if your prostate is OK.

TSB addresses what they say it does, or want you to believe, but they put other fixes into the update, that they wont admit to it, the world runs on updates,,,, trucks...phones...computers...tv's...server's...game consoles..etc...etc... dealers update there software, PC systems,, phones,,
take TSB with you, they cant tell you NO..

Because completing things like Rev1 and the UCA howling was part of my negotiation. A Toyota employee should know the lingo.
