Anyone else not satisfied with their 6 MT?

Hey guys, want to see what everyone else thinks about their manual. With the lack of low end power and strange reverse gearing, I am in serious regret about buying this truck. Trying to back up any kind of incline seems to fry the clutch unless I give it 3/4 throttle or so. Forget trying to back up with any kind of load or trailer. Not to mention I average 14.5 MPG's! I only have 265/75/16's with around 2.5" of lift. Anyone else feel the same?

No lift, but I am considering going to 265/70R17s and am debating the weight and MPG hit in my head.

You my want to try the TSB update? TSB-0058-18 or TSB-0125-18. Lots of details here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/

Also if you are that serious, you might also want to try this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mt-accumulator-delete-and-bs-thread.568303/

With both of those, the tall reverse gear feels a lot better. There is zero reason for that ratio, but it can be improved a bit.

Also, there are 2Lo mod threads out there. One is electronic and the other is a manual hub mod.

Other than no remote start and so so MPG on the highway I love mine. I'm LUCKY if I get 20MPG at 65MPH and I'm easy on the pedal. Anything over 70MPH and I get in the 18 range.
But the 6MT is fun and easy to drive. Are there times I wish I got an auto? Sure. But overall I'm glad I got the 6MT. My test drive with the AUTO was ANNOYING.

I don't tow so I never had driveability issues in reverse.

    I wish it had a v8 but that's a different thread.

Man it would be great if people stopped joining this amazing forum just to bitch about not being happy with the truck.

How about you come contribute, look around, and leave some comments before bitching about a truck you had the option to test drive and read reviews about before buying.

Nah mate I love my manual. Sure, sometimes I wish I had an automatic but I only really feel that way when I am in a lazy mood.

Besides, I'm a MAN, and MEN drive manuals. /s

Can’t back up without 3/4 throttle? Can’t back up a trailer? Maybe you should learn how to drive first.

Tried the TSB with really no difference in power that I can tell at low end. I'm thinking OVtune might be the best option but cannot afford to pay for premium fuel in CA. I am reluctant to try the accumulator mod as I really want to keep the truck as factory as possible but if any others find that much of improvement I would seriously consider. 2lo mod seems to be one of the best for my reverse issues. I had 1st gen with manual hubs and would always utilize 2lo.

I do live and drive in the mountains at high elevations most of the time.

    Thanks for the response

Not being satisfied with a MT is like not being satisfied with sex, or not being satisfied with having unlimited money.

    It isn't a thing.

I appreciate the feedback. I did not however get the opportunity to test drive while towing or driving on inclines at high elevations. I unfortunately had to drive to the city and test drive down there. The truck is completely different at low elevation with on flat streets with no load. I also did not come across any negative reviews which is why i am posing the question if it is just me out there that is having so many issues with this truck.

Put it in 4low for reversing uphill with a trailer, or better yet, get a front mounted hitch.

The 2nd gen manual gearbox was also too tall in reverse. Good for working on Jturns, not so much with backing a boat up a driveway.

It is just you. Coming up on 80,000 on my 6MT PRO, not a single problem.

I routinely tow a race car and motorcycles to the track. I live on 2800Feet elevation, lots of go up and down to sea level daily, with plenty of hill starts etc.

Last summer taking boat up to Mammoth, 7500 feet elevation, no problem.
