Anything you want, no real formula to an SAS. Since it’s all about cutting and welding you can make anything work.

If you wanna stay the same bolt pattern and be a Toyota axel them probably a fj80 axel will be best.

There's plenty of info regarding tacoma SAC on TW, MC, TTORA etc. Just have to look and spent some time searching and reading.

Your tacoma have a DS tcase, so you'll need a DS SA. Commonly use SA are D44/D60 or you can run custom built housing. Cheaper route will be the TG SA kit. Unless you do a P drop setup then you can run a 80 or mini SA, tho the WMS is narrower.

You'll have to put into consideration: link or leaf.

Keep in mind, cheaper route for SA still run ~7k if you're able to do the work and fab some of the parts yourself.

My advice: if you don't know what you're doing, don't start. Or just have a shop do it all.

I got an 85 Chevy in the back 40 I could take the axle off of it, can I use the same leaf pack off of that or are they going to be to long you think?

Nothing will bolt on in factory location as far as leaf spring goes. If you fab new mounting point, it will work.

The Chevy axel has the pumkin on the passengers side you will have to get a different transfer case to use it. Jeep Wagoner is the most common used front axel it has the 6 bolt pattern. Ford axels also have the pumpkin on the correct side but the wrong bolt pattern at the wheels, you might be able to use parts off the Chevy to make the wheels work.

I think you need to do a lot more reading before you get into this.

Pretty Much comes down to how big of a budget .

Good place to work so you can get everything straight and square.

Over the years I have fixed quite a few that went down the road sideways. Not a big deal if you trailer to and from your adventures.

Run two cases so 20 mph is fast

You might even want to look into the kits that might be on the market I have not looked for some time they may no longer be out there

    Do this ^^^^
Trail Gear has a leaf sprung kit. I think it's 6k msrp. It literally come with everything except wheels and tires. You don't have the knowledge to piece something together. And if you don't got the monies to buy the kit don't start cutting your truck up yet. Take it from me, kits are there to replace the years of experience you don't have.

Awesome. I have a descent sized shop I to put my truck in with all the tools and everything and as far as the budget goes I’ll be able to throw about 2 grand a month at this turd I know it’s not much but over time I’ll be able to get everything I need. And I’m just going to rail on this rig the way it sits until I can afford everything

Built it right the first time and cry once. Dont go forking money out to finish your truck to just change your mind later and end up selling it. Make sure it's something you really want to built and not something you just want to do because you got the truck for cheap.

Look for used parts that's where the savings is. Paying 6 grand for a leaf spring SAS kit is nuts. I swapped mine for about as cheap as you can possibly do it, I think it's a little over 3 grand not including tires. 900 of that was the f/r gears. I found a used fj60 axle for $150, got a set of free used leafs off a landcruiser and used those up front, used hi steer kit, I have more in my air bumps than the entire front suspension. I did it as an exparament because everyone assumes it will cost 7-10k+ to SAS one of these, so this was my middle finger to the internet LOL. I drive it to and from the trails so it drives fine up to 85 which is as fast as I will take it. I would not recommend a rookie try it though, not that I'm a master fabricator, I have spent alot of time helping people fab, and had a semi deep bench of friends to call for advice, but I did 95% of the work myself in a 2car garage. Build threads in my signature, check it out and ask questions in there.

    Note:
I did flip a Toyota axle to drivers side drop, the only reason I did this was because I already had $4k+ tied up in my dual cases/lefty tcase setup over the years. If I was building the truck from scratch I would have swapped in a gear drive early mini truck tcase and dual case setup and keep the axle passenger side drop.
