Now that I'm in a much wetter area, I am moving my rear diff breather to the engine bay (was in the fuel door and would get wet). Figured I'd take care of the transfer case and transmission breathers while I was running the line. You can see the transfer case breather hanging down in the first pic.

From all the info I could find, the transmission breather on my 5 speed (Automatic) 2010 TRD Sport with tow package should terminate into a plastic breather where the engine and bell housing meet. I think I found the breather line but I can't find the breather. It appears that the line continues into a metal bracket that's bolted to the back of the engine block. What am I looking at? Im pretty sure that is the trans breather, but what does it terminate into?

I thought the transmission and transfer case breather were high enough in the engine compartment that if you submerged them you'd have other issues?

Also, why not relocate the rear diff breather to the bed cubby?

    To answer your questions:

Not sure about the transmission breather but the transfer case breather sits on top of the transmission. Guess high enough above the ground but not up in the engine bay.

I have other plans for my bed cubbies and I know the engine bay will keep the breather dry.

    @Slashaar is correct.

    I found:

Front diff and acutator (by the battery)
Transfer case (the breather you saw hanging in the first pic)
    Rear diff (obvious)

I just cannot find the transmission. I spent a good while feeling around the top of the transmission and sliding my phone up above the transmission. There is only 1 line, that felt like a breather, coming off the top passenger side of the trans and ending in the metal bracket on the side of the engine block (pictures above).

Heres a top view of the trans, facing towards the back. Thats the line with the red tape that ends in the metal bracket on the block.

I think you're chasing the wrong line.

It may Tee into another breather.

On a second look, that braided line runs all the way back on the Transmission. You sure that connects to the transfer case?

That's the transfer case breather. I followed it back to the transfer case. I moved it out of the way while searching for the transmission breather.

Yeah, I'm as sure as I can be since I cant actually look above both cases.

Based on this picture the breather line comes out of the trans on top, more on the passenger side. Has a metal bracket that hold it down. It looks just like the line with the red tape.

    IMG_20180110_203440.jpg

The breather with the braided sheathe goes all the way down to the transfer case where it tees into 2 lines coming out of the transfer case.

    I do, it's the 5 speed AT

Edit: I added "automatic" to the first post. Sorry about the confusion.

The parts fische you posted got me looking at OEM parts diagrams. Under my truck specs I can find 3 different diagrams that appear to show the breather in different configurations. I can't figure out if it's different models of the trans or different views.

This one has a dipstick so it is clearly not mine.
    a1_354767K.jpg

This one appears identical to the 3rd fische except for the way the breather terminates.
    a1_354768E.jpg

Mine appears to be this one. Part #3512335010 (35123A on the diagram) is the black metal bracket bolted to the back of the block. It is the terminal of the line I assumed was the breather. It is listed as "SKIRT, TRANSMISSION BREATHER". I would love to know how it functions as a breather.
    a1_356078F.jpg

Thank you @Slashaar, at least I know I'm not crazy now!

It might be a plastic breather too, so look for plastic and metal.
