stick a paper in a fan and it makes like a slapping sound right? or another example is riding ur bike when u were little and sticking a flat coke can in the rear tire to give it the dirt bike sound.

the slapping turns off as i drive but in park, neutral, and reverse it starts again. in neutral it makes the sound and in reverse the sound gets louder as the rpms increase.

anyone have any experience with this?

See if the fan is rubbing on the lower edge of the fan shroud. If it is, search on here for 05 motor mount problem. I really hope that's not what's up with your truck, but it is a common symptom.

If it is a serious slapping than my guess would also be a motor mount since it is a well known symptom of this problem. The mount usually collapses into the frame. Cost of repair usually depends on what route you wish to take - could be as simple as welding/gusseting the mount or as complicated as needing a whole new frame.

Hopefully this isn't the issue, but the fan hitting the shroud is a known symptom of a broken mount.

you can have someone hold the break and put the truck in drive. if they press the gas while holding the brake the engine will lift excessively 3-4". happened to my s10.

did u recently jump your truck? after accidentally launching of the razor back of a dune in Pismo going 65 mph (i literally shat my pants), i landed so hard that I bend the radiator in and pushed the fan shroud closer to the fan, causing the fan blades to strike the bottom of the fan shroud. Dremeling off watever hits is a simple solution
