Taco Garage - Dashtop Multi-Mount (DMM) - Securely mount ANYTHING to your dash

I’m really curious as to how everyone is supplying power to usb cables behind the dashboard? It definitely makes for a much more clean / slick look.

The easiest way I think is to simply cut a notch on the bottom also and run a cable from the power outlet to the top, like @Finalmomento did on his post HERE

 

Got my DMM installed and looking great! No complaints here


I had a hell of a time removing the dash piece since my stereo's screen, but somehow with the right angle and a little torque was able to get it off without breaking something. I was very close to removing my entire stereo just to get the damn dash off hah.


I used two cheapo plastic clamps to hold the top bracket and drilled the holes with no problem. I was even able to get the washers on and tightening on the back plates without any issue and no drimmil trimming to make room for tightening the washers. Probably thanks to some low-profile tools I used.


Speaking of low profile, the bracket is hardly noticeable and installing the ram ball and other items were easy. Since my screen is not flush with the dash like stock I lose some preferred mount and positioning options, but the flexibility of the swivel mount gives me plenty of spots and angles to choose from.

Finally installed my #DMM today! Thanks @FreshMexicanTaco Also wired up my second addition to my @Mr.PowerTrays #PowerTray! Added a DC 12V to 5V step down converter with 2 USB ports, which will power my Pitaka magnetic wireless charger... Couldn’t find an all black 90 degree USB-C cable at Walmart, so this’ll have to do for now...

That set up is amazing! I love how tight-knit everything is and your attention to detail.

I really wanna use this set up, but in my case it's not as practical because my stereo's main focus is -wired- Apple CarPlay connection.. :-(

You got me thinking twice on the ease of a solid magnetic mount though. I have to apply a decent amount of force to get my phone to fit in my swivel, always gets me thinking how much bend until it breaks. To the DMM's defense, it's only been one day of use but it held up like a champ! Very sturdy, everything held tight with no issues I am happy to report. I wonder what mount is used the most by TW members; swivel, magnetic, or other.. ?

I will be trying different spots to find my happy zone with its positioning but nothing negative to say! I will be keeping tabs on this thread to continue to see where you guys take things next

 

Thanks man! Yeah, just trying to dial everything in on this truck to what works best and feels best for me... so far the most useful mods was this #DMM setup and moving my rearview mirror up with the #ClearViewRearview Mount from BirdDawgIndustries!

I *thought the 3rd gens come with an adjustable one already? Funny, now that I think about it I've never tried adjusting mine...

It is adjustable, but I just felt it was still too low and obstructing my view...

Another "I wish I would have taken pics while I was installing it" situation. I will have to pull everything back out once I decide on how to run my cables. So far, man, I freakin' love it. Clean install. It looks as close to factory as I could imagine it could. 10/10

Weird I never thought about it. Guess it’s never been an issue. That’s a pretty genius mod though. Did you get the ram mount version? If so, what are you using it for?

 

I had to make a Ram Mount version. Just using it for my iPhone...
