Is one available yet for the 3rd gens? I remember reading about the development of one but nothing was solidified.

Yes, to have the ability to lock the rear end when needed. I have a 2017 OR and can only use locker in 4Lo.

Why would you want to lock the rear axle in other situation?

You won’t be able to drive over 30 MPH with a locked rear axle. Not safely, anyway.

So far, all I have found is the not-yet-released 2Lo mod here, which, I assume, will let you use the locker in 2Lo.

I feel like the option would be cool but would probably never use it. These things are shift on the fly, 4x4 should be able to handle anything a locked 2wd is doing.

It’s not like we are running Baja

    None as of yet
100+ MPH trophy trucks and buggies all run spools. When off road the dirt is your differential. One pavement you would just be in a world of hurt.

Just looking for the option to lock the rear when playing in the dirt. Might just have to upgrade the rear end.

3rd gen Taco: 1.5" strut spacer HPS silicone intake tube (Red) K&N Drop-in 1.25" Wheel Spacer Airaid throttle body spacer Runner: JBA UCA, Solo motorsports LCA, Freedom Offroad 1"-4" coilovers adjusted .75", .75" spacer (3-4" overall) 33x18 Goodyear duratracs, Tundra brakes, Panhard correction, Overland Customs Forged ball joint Sway bar links, Poly bushings all around. Roof rack.....Lit up like a Christmas tree. Taco: stock.... 30" cheapo mud tires, no cat. 1.5 daystar front level spacer. Custom headache rack with light bar.
It also helps a lot in snow/mud when you want the front to float not dig. Which is why Toyotas have always been much better in both these situations. IFS and a skid plate with 2wd locked would hardly ever need 4wd. Jeeps have straight axle which acts like a snow plow or a blade holding it back in deep mud and snow.

If you're reviving this thread because you're looking for a solution, there is another thread where they found a solution. It takes a bit of modding though.

Op, check out the above thread.
The old "grey wire" mod of the early Tacomas is not possible anymore. Way to much computer stuff controlling these things now.

I did that on my 2004. Used it all the time on the beach. Was nice for snow on the highway also.
