An additional cooler is needed when towing near max and hot weather. The Tacoma transmission generates a lot of heat when the torque converter is unlocks.

You can monitor your trans fluid temps first, if you like. It's cheap with a smart phone.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ure-pids-for-torque-pro-and-now-apple.513531/

If you generate too much heat and get above 195F, look here. As stated, the trans only generates heat to get past 195F when the torque converter is unlocked. It's always unlocked in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. It can unlock in 4th and 5th, as well

Have you looked at a Jayco X213? Thats what we have and it tows fine if you have realistic expectations. It's 5,500 loaded and we tow it in the mountains (love at 4,500ft and usually take it over 7,000ft passes when we have it out). I can maintain 55mph going up the passes and the truck has no problem going 60-75 in the flats (I'm usually between 60 and 65mph). The key is loading the trailer properly and setting the WD hitch to keep the towing manners in check.

Yes I did look at that one, not a big fan of bunks, just me and my wife. I am leaning towards the Jayco feather j216rk. Gvw is 5500 on that loaded same as yours. It’s not on the Jayco site yet, too new I guess. Here is the dealer link for pics and specs:
    https://www.trailsiderv.net/rv/2020-JAYCO-JAY-FEATHER-J2-16-RK-14854

Really like your setup. Did you mod the suspension or anything? Saw you added a cooler.
    Thanks

Tow a T@B 400. It weighs 2864 dry. Probably more like 3000-3500 lbs loaded. I've only had this combination for a couple of months so I'm still getting used to it. So far so good.IMG_20190707_085956569_HDR.jpg

That's a nice looking trailer. We have 2 little ones so we needed the bunks.

I towed on the stock suspension for a season and it was nice and level when the WD hitch was set. I'm running Fox coilovers and rear shocks with a Dakar leaf pack now but didn't upgrade for towing. I wanted to add the cooler for piece of mind but then I got sick and surgery and chemo got in the way of me wrapping it up. I just need to hook up the lines and flush/top off the ATF.

Has everything in it. Queen bed, heat, air, hot water, stove top, refrigerator, microwave, bathroom with shower. Since it's just the two of us now we don't need anything to big.
