Anybody decide not to remove their clutch fluid accumulator? I purchased one of the available kits of TW and planned to install, but I have been learning about hydraulic systems in some engineering classes I am taking currently.

Some state that Toyota placed the accumulator in the clutch system to reduce wear and to make the manual transmission easier for beginners to learn on.

A misconception I had about the accumulator was that it kept the speed of engagement constant no matter the speed of clutch pedal travel.

The general function(s) of a hydraulic accumulator is:
    • As a "storage tank" for high pressure hydraulic systems
    • storage of pressure in case the "pump" or in our case master cylinder cannot supply enough pressure to operate the slave cylinder for full travel of the pressure plate spring.
    • Accumulators also serve to filter out pulsations in the pressure (this results in constant pressure, which is good).
So in conclusion the accumulator does not hinder flow of fluid, it simply keeps the pressure constant for complete actuation of the clutch.

So after learning this information I am reluctant to delete the accumulator.

    Any opinions? Thoughts?

If engagement speed is a function of pressure, and pressure is being held constant, then doesn't that make the "misconception" truth?

After I removed mine. I took a look inside. I know its called an accumulator, and there is a space that could by definition be called a reservoir in there. But, in my opinion the whole contraption is more of fixed orifice flow restrictor.

I see what you're saying and you could be correct, I believe In a regular accumulator pressure is maintained at "x" amount regardless of "speed". But if what @fatboyfirebass said is true then it might not fall under accumulator and really be more of a flow restrictor.

Does anybody have any pictures of an accumulator and insides?

Here are some pictures that show it in various states of dis-assembly
