Installing portable Viair 300p , in truck.

I have been looking and reading about people installing on board air. I am thinking about installing my Viair 300p in the engine compartment. Is there a universal wiring kit I could buy or modify to do this? If anyone has done this, could I get some info from you. Or redirect me to a link to read up on. Tired of airing up with a Ryobi cordless air compressor and the 300p fit my budget and seemed good enough for the amount I would use.

OH!!!!!! what accessories should I carry and what ones are suggested??

Would need to fab up a bracket to mount it somewhere. I've seen people mount ARB compressors in the back left of the engine compartment, maybe look up how people install the ARB compressor and see where they mount...

Wiring is wiring. You will have to cut off the clamp ends and splice on your own wires of the same gauge. Go through a fuse and a switch somewhere.

Think you'll get the most help with watching an install of an ARB compressor on a tacoma and kinda following what they do...

A few problems I forsee, but not impossible.

1. Air pressure cutoff switch. Would prefer automatic, I did not think the 300p came with it, just a manual on unit switch. I guess this is not essential if you are not running an air tank.

2. Manual switch location. It's on the unit itself, so you would need to leave the on unit switch on, and install a manual switch on the battery wire. Where would you place the remote switch? I toyed with the idea of a 40A wireless 12v switch fob

3. If the idea is to run an air hose to an aux location, you will really covet the idea of a relocated manual switch or auto pressure switch or both.

I just ordered the 300p (arrives tomorrow).

I have run high amp battery cables to the back, so regardless of the tire I am inflating, the unit and it's power switch is local to where I'm working.

Plan to carry a 20ft 1/4 rubber hose in covered bed.

This pic helped me, the pressure switch goes to a tank or manifold. I used a 2 gallon tank and bolted it underside of bed front passenger side.

Installed coupler on frame right next to the tank (yeah not getting sliders anytime soon). The compressor itself I put in the bed storage with the expedition essentials mount, totally had to hack up the EE mount, but fit perfect, then locking Mobtown doors.

The power switch I put in lower dash (Meso panel) next to the locker switch. This was a rather long ass install, like several weeks because I ordered parts as I went.

 

Reviving this thread. Anyone successfully mount the Viair 300p to their truck?

 

I have it mounted in my engine by via a simple custom bracket I created out of some sheet metal. Took me about 2 hours to make it, using just an angle grinder and a drill. Got the sheet metal from home Depot. I'll take some pictures this afternoon.

As for wiring I went the hilariously simple. I just cut off the alligator clips and put on ring terminals. Generally whenever I'm airing up tires I'm with my wife, so she just activates the on/off switch on the pump while I monitor the gauges at the tire.

 

I mounted a 450-IG in the back behind my driver-side wheel well and put a chuck for it on my high clearance rear bumper. The compressor itself is mounted upside down under the driver side cubby. https://www.viaircorp.com/ig-series/450c-ig - it works great, but doesn't have a pressure relay, so I still need to add a tank with a relay cutoff. I haven't decided whether or not I'm going with airbags or not, so I'm just careful to not let pressure build in the line until I make the decision and finish the system. If I go no airbags, I'll just use a small tank with pressure cutoff. If I'm going with airbags it'll be a bit more complicated, with a manifold before the tank.

The wiring is similar to the diagram @Grossomotto posted. I used a 30A relay and a switched power source (I have the key on trigger a 10A relay that triggers a bluseas panel that has all my relays on it). The power runs down a thick extension cord rated for 20A to the compressor in the back.

I mounted my ARB Single in the passenger-side corner using a Slee Offroad bracket. You could fab up a mount I would think

This is for an 88P, but it has relevant details on a simple manifold and pressure switch design. I'm looking into putting an OBA rig into my engine compartment but with the SR5 I don't have as much room on the pax side for the mounting and I already have an aux panel on top of the main fuse box.

 

I've been thinking about doing this since yesterday, low tire pressure and the couple air fill stations I went to didn't work. I saw the Viair 300p on Amazon for $150 and searched TW for mounting options and found this thread.
