What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

That’s crazy! I replaced my windshield 4 years ago right before I left montana after getting a huge rock (that I ducked for) thrown into my line of sight. Moved to Oregon, the South Carolina, and now I’ve been back in Idaho where I grew up for about 8 months. No a single chip for 3 years. I move back to Idaho and I can barely see out of my windshield with how pitted it is. There are probably more rock chips on my hood than there is paint too.

 

The worst is when the seasons change. Got a chip in the windshield of my last truck during the fall in AZ when it's 40 in the morning and hits 90-100 in the afternoon. I came back from college one afternoon and it had spiderwebbed all the way across my windshield from the weather fluctuation smh

 

My Deavers are finally here! Can’t wait to get these installed. I have Icon 2.0s good for 0-3” of lift and an extended brake line already installed. Been wanting these springs for a long time. I don’t carry much weight and my current set up is the OEM springs that have 276k miles on them. I added an AAL at around 180k miles. So I’m excited to check them out.

 

complimentary alignment check at dealer today, a little off but they said not too bad
is there anything to be concerned about?

all original suspension components still, never had alignment before and only checked once about a year ago

 

When replacing the CV seal do you just throw it on the CV with some grease and then put the CV in like normal?

 

Very nice. Be sure to post some before and after pictures. Deavers seem like a popular next step up from AALs.

 

the dealer service was not very thrilled about this stuff being drizzled all over the entire front suspension components, skid plate and transmission, transfer, etc. i sprayed it everywhere
they nearly freaked out thinking i had leaks all over the place
checked the engine bay and it was dry
checked fluid levels, all were fine
they actually wanted to get it all hosed off so they could check to see where the leaks were at
i covered my mouth, what am i supposed to do !!

 

Calling all y'all that know of who has ripped out the 3.4L and put in a V8 while maintaining 4x4.

Attempting to see who's done it and what are the pitfalls, etc.
I have seen in person, on the trail in Naches trail, a 89 Xtra Cab SAS with a chevy 350 and I was speechless...

on the diff? no. Get it started first. Then use the CV to push it in.

always. But starting it first to get it as square as possible before using the CV is the best way to do it.

Once I get that seal I’ll do it that way.


Also pretty sure I found my annoying noise in the engine bay (well one of them). I think it’s the fan bracket bearing going bad. Took off all the belts and spun the bearing. Doesn’t sound horrible but you can definitely hear it. Also put a stethoscope to it while it was running and could hear it not smoothly spinning. So it’s either that one or the crank shaft pulley that’s making noise.

I know it’s the the idler pulley because the AC belt has been off for months.

Probably going to do the timing belt in the next few weeks just for preventative maintenance since I’d already be in that far doing the fan bracket

 

Can you post the way the engine sounds? I’ve been suspecting mine for a while but been too lazy to deep dive.

 

I’ll try and get a video tomorrow. But it sounds similar to the idler pulley going bad. But it’s higher up, when I’m standing over the engine I hear it, then I go under to see if it’s the crank pulley it’s quieter but I can still hear it so I can’t rule that one out either

 

I had this problem had the rag joint replaced and it all good now. Mine was really bad when I finally got it replaced. Like it was getting caught and then releasing.

 

Researching first but I suspect that SAS and V8 are a "partnership"

 

not really. But tricky with the 4wd and IFS.

CX makes it easy. They sell bolt in motor mounts now and headers, they will need tweaked(heads) for the 4wd though. But exhaust is always going to be custom.

Id just do an LS if your going to do a V8. the 2uz is huge and heavy. A LS is smaller and will be easier to fit.
